George Washington Carver National Monument is pleased to announce that Prairie Day will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prairie Day, an annual special event, began in 1986 to commemorate George Washington Carver’s childhood environment through storytelling, music, living history, and interactive exhibits. It is scheduled in conjunction with Gem City Days in Diamond, Missouri, and is free of charge.
Come experience historic skills demonstrations such as basket weaving, blacksmithing, rope making, Dutch oven cooking, candle making, butter churning, treadle spinning, crocheting, wood working, wool spinning, broom stick making, apple cider milling, corn shelling, quilting, and exploring old fashioned toys and games and washboard laundry.
Musical performances with music popular from the mid 1800's is a huge part of the Prairie Day fun. This year’s lineup includes the Vogt The Vogts Sisters, Ozark fiddler Nathan McAlister, Pickers Post, The Holmes Brigade Shirkers, Ann and Bill Riggs, and Abbey Waterworth & Josh Gilbert.
