Since 2018, the Brodhead Association, consisting of Detroit area veterans, has been challenged by a competitor that wants to acquire the Brodhead Naval Armory. However, they have not been able to raise the required funds or have a legitimate plan to avoid the demolition of the rare historically designated architecture. Further, their development does not reflect the highest and best use of the property and a growing number of Eastside communities do not support their proposed project.
The Brodhead Association seeks to propose an alternate plan that would preserve over 100 years of military and nautical history as well as the exterior and interior architecture listed on the National Register of Historic Sites.
