Helping People Experiencing Hardships

Helping People Experiencing Hardships HPEH is dedicated to promoting and empowering Detroit's less fortunate. Our goals are to find more permanent resolutions for individuals within the city.

The foundation focuses it's funding to provide temporary transitioning shelter, nutrition and employment training. Helping People Experiencing Hardships (HPEH) was established to assist Detroit’s most vulnerable men, women and children who have found themselves financially unable to provide for themselves. In 2013, we began with feeding between 75 to 150 people hot meals as well as provided hygien

e products, socks and warm clothing once a week. HPEH wants to provide relief and assist as many people as we can. Many of our past efforts has been to help children with school supplies, fund raised for funeral cost for a family who did not have life insurance, fulfill entire Christmas list for over 40 children and recently provided tutoring for young children during Covid-19.

This year we decided to focus on 1 senior apartment building and was able to provide each resident 3 full meals. We purchased 200 pounds of meat, dried beans, rice, canned veggies, sweet and arsh potatoes, bell peppers and toiletries. The cake and cookies were donated by Luca pastry as well as Costco supported our drive. We had 5 Wayne State University students who were eager to donate and participate in giving out all items. The Grand Price meat manager Robert was extremely helpful and gracious.

We are so appreciative to all our donors and volunteers for another successful Thanksgiving Dinner and toiletry event. None of our efforts could be possible without their help.

Kroger provides gift cards to purchase hundreds of dollars toward our event. Della James has been on board for three years and the excitement she brings can't be matched. She does her best to ensure everyone receives toiletries, turkey and cake. She has solicited the purchase and preparation of turkeys donated from First Presbyterian Church in Dearborn. Our beautiful cake was prepared by All Things Cake in Livonia. Angie Mueller and Wendy Chan donated toiletries.
Our family of volunteers are Lee Williams, his wife and children. They have committed to helping for two years and every year to come.
We are thankful for all the seniors, houseless and veterans trusting us to provide them with our donations. Our goal is to continue doing what we can until there is no more need or neglect of daily essentials such as hot food and toiletries.

Monetary donations were received from Lynette Battle, Marion Greenup, Pat Dockery, Chantilly Wells, Gunzallo Lovett Jr, Robert Williams, Jangul Powell, Bernard Pettis, Stephen Hill, Teresa Dubose, Debra Fairley, Dr Kim Logan Nowlin, Sheila Phelps, John Russell, Marva Hughes and Darryl Williams.
