The Norwegian Chamber of Commerce in Michigan had the honor of welcoming the Norwegian Ambassador to the United States, Anniken Huitfeldt, on her visit to Detroit. 🇳🇴🇺🇸

NorCham Michigan hosted a reception at the Detroit Athletic Club with representatives from Norwegian businesses and the Norwegian-American heritage community, including members of Sons Of Norway.

We were proud to spotlight two Norwegian member companies that have recently established a presence in the Detroit metro area. Both bringing cutting-edge Norwegian solutions aligned with Michigan’s strengths in mobility and clean energy:

🤖 wheel.me - the Norwegian robotics company transforming indoor mobility and automation.

🔋 Vianode - a leading producer of sustainable battery materials, now preparing its first North American facility.

The Ambassador also met with Detroit Regional Partnership and visited Norsk Hydro’s state-of-the-art aluminum recycling facility in Cassopolis (south of Kalamazoo), opened in 2023.

NorCham leaders from across the United States gathered in Chicago in September for the annual NorCham USA Presidents Council - an energizing two-day program of strategy sessions, member updates, and collaboration across chapters. The meetings were expertly hosted by NorCham Chicago President Matt Nygaard in close partnership with Susan Meyer, Honorary Consul of Norway to Illinois and Wisconsin.

During the council, participants met with Jo Sletbak, Norway’s Consul General in New York, Hege Vibeke Barnes, Managing Director at Innovation Norway Americas; and former U.S. Ambassador to Norway under President Clinton, Tom Loftus, who recently released his book Mission to Oslo. The conversations centered on strengthening transatlantic business ties, elevating visibility for Norwegian companies in key U.S. regions, and coordinating programming that benefits members nationwide.

While in Chicago, council attendees also joined the Kongsberg Discovery × NorCham Chicago reception held alongside OCEANS 2025, connecting with Norwegian companies exhibiting at the trade show. The event highlighted growing opportunities for Norwegian technology and maritime expertise across the Great Lakes and beyond.

was founded in 1972 in Norway, based on the design, manufacturing, and sale of reverse vending machines (RVMs) for automating the collection of used beverage containers. Today, TOMRA provides solutions that enable a with advanced collection and sorting systems, and food processing by employing sensor-based sorting and grading technology. With 105,000+ installations in over 100 markets, TOMRA generated approximately 1.35 billion EUR in revenue in 2024, operating globally across all continents.
