ONE MONTH until the 40th Annual Pooch Prance!

The countdown is officially on, and we could use a little help from our amazing community!

We are collecting gift cards valued at $5 or more to use as raffle items and game prizes during Pooch Prance. Every gift card donated gives us another opportunity to raise funds that go directly toward helping the animals at MACS.

Gift cards of all kinds are welcome—restaurants, shopping, gas, groceries, coffee, local businesses and more!

You can drop off donations at the shelter Tuesday–Saturday from 8:30 AM–3:00 PM, or mail them to:

Thank you in advance for every gift card donated! Your generosity helps turn a fun day at Pooch Prance into meaningful support for the animals at MACS. We’re so grateful to have a community that continues to show up for them year after year. 🐾

Smokey is ready to trade shelter life for a home of his very own!

At 22 weeks old, this neutered little guy is still just a kitten with so much growing, playing, and loving left to do. And with that sweet face, he’s pretty hard to resist!

Smokey is at the shelter waiting for the person who will make his stay here his last stop before forever. Come meet him and make his day!

Ready to adopt? Come to the shelter to meet him Tuesday-Saturday 11am-2:30pm or you can apply at macsshelter.org/adoptions!

What a difference a day can make.

Yesterday, we introduced you to First Class and Special Delivery, and today we brought them out to our play yard for some time together in the sunshine.

It didn’t take long for the belly-up wiggles to begin! They rolled around on their backs, soaked up the sun, played together, and showed us just how much they enjoy being by each other’s side.

After only 24 hours with us, two things are already clear: these girls love each other and their resilience is something special.

We’re giving them plenty of time to settle in while we continue learning more about them—and we have a feeling there are many more sunny, wiggly days ahead for First Class and Special Delivery. ❤️

UPDATE: ADOPTED!

Sometimes things just don’t work out the way we hope, and unfortunately, Sebastian is back in our care.

His return had nothing to do with this sweet boy. A child in his home began experiencing severe allergies, and his family ultimately had to make the difficult decision to bring him back.

Before Sebastian was adopted, he had so many wonderful people interested in him. We’ve reached back out to his previous applicants, but haven’t heard anything back yet. So once again, this adorable 2-year-old Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix is waiting for someone to choose him.

Sebastian is sweet, silly, lovable, and more than ready to trade his shelter kennel for a comfy spot at home. We’re hoping he won’t have to wait long this time around.

Come meet Sebastian Tuesday–Saturday from 11 AM–2:30 PM and see if he’s the missing piece of your family.

Two crates. Two dogs. And thankfully, one person who cared enough to stop and get them help.

Today, a Good Samaritan reached out to us after finding two dogs abandoned in crates. While going out to pick up animals isn’t something we normally do, we knew these two needed someone—and our outreach team responded.

We don’t know what happened before that call was made. We don’t know why they were left there. What we do know is that both dogs are now safe at MACS, where they have food, water, a comfortable place to rest, and a team ready to give them the care they deserve. We’re just beginning to get to know them, and we’ll share more as we learn about their personalities and what they’ll need moving forward.

Stories like this are why we always encourage our community to speak up when an animal needs help. You never know when simply making a call could be the reason an animal gets a second chance.

For now, we’d like you to meet First Class and Special Delivery 🐾

Could Ava be the one you’ve been waiting for?

At 10 years old, this sweet senior girl is patiently waiting at the shelter for someone to come meet her and fall in love. She’s ready for a cozy home, a comfy spot to nap, and a family to call her own.

Our friends from AdAdapted were back last week for another MACS Motor Mutts adventure!

Their team took some of our adoptable dogs on a Doggy Day Out to Belle Isle, giving them a chance to get out of the shelter, explore, soak up some attention, and simply enjoy being dogs for the day.

Outings like these can make such a difference for shelter dogs. They provide a much-needed break from kennel life, help us learn more about their personalities, and can even help increase their chances of being adopted!

AdAdapted also held a donation drive and brought supplies to help us continue caring for the animals at MACS. We are incredibly grateful for their continued support. ❤️

And a big thank you to VCA Charities for providing the supplies that help make our MACS Motor Mutts program possible!

Want to take an adoptable dog on their own Doggy Day Out? Get started at macsshelter.org/volunteering.

Come meet our adoptable animals Tuesday–Saturday from 11 AM–2:30 PM. Their next adventure could be the best one yet — going HOME.

We’re celebrating THREE of our animals who officially found their forever homes today!

Sebastian and Lottie both met their new families right here at the shelter, while Jody Girl found her happily ever after at PetSmart Utica.

Seeing them leave with families of their very own is the moment we work toward every single day. From waiting in their kennels to heading HOME — this is what it’s all about.

Thank you to their wonderful adopters for choosing adoption and giving these three the fresh starts they deserve. Happy tails, Sebastian, Lottie & Jody Girl! We’re so excited for everything ahead of you. ❤️

It’s International Cat Day!

This handsome 2-year-old boy is spending his Saturday at the shelter with one thing on his mind — finding a family to call his own.

Sushi is neutered, adorable, and ready to leave shelter life behind for a home where he can settle in, get comfortable, and finally know what it feels like to have a family again.

Maybe you’ve been thinking about adding a cat to your family. Maybe you’ve just been waiting for the right one. Sushi is hoping today is the day you come find each other.

Come meet Sushi and all of our other adoptable animals today from 11AM–2:30 PM! Learn more and fill out an adoption application at macsshelter.org/adoptions

📍 13569 Joseph Campau, Detroit, MI 48212

Please share and help us get Sushi’s sweet face in front of the family who’s been looking for him!

UPDATE: Thank you for all of the love, interest, and shares for Sebastian! We are happy to announce he is officially adopted and on his way home!

Sebastian was really hoping today would be his day at Petco Eastpointe… but his forever family didn’t find him just yet. He enjoyed everyone he met and having a break from the shelter!

This silly 2-year-old Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix isn’t giving up — maybe tomorrow will be his special day! Sebastian has done well with children and hasn’t met other animals yet, so slow introductions are recommended.

Come meet him tomorrow at the shelter from 11 AM–2:30 PM! You can apply to adopt at macsshelter.org/adoptions.

Give Sebastian a share and help his family find him💙
