DSWPS is celebrating 123 years in Detroit! Did you know that the Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors is the oldest continuously operating women's art organization in the United States?!

We are thrilled to be back at Detroit Main Public Library Gallery as the first exhibition of 2026. And 2026 also just happens to be the year that the city of Detroit celebrates 325 years since its founding!

We look forward to having you with us this Saturday afternoon, January 17th, at the Detroit Public Libary on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit, from 2-4:30 for the opening reception of our new exhibition "Detroit Roots: A Shared History". Come celebrate with us!

We at DSWPS are thrilled to join forces with Detroit Main in kicking off Detroit's 325th anniversary year in 2026! Make sure your DSWPS membership is up to date, and jump in!

Fabulous!: Artist and DSWPS member Renee Dempsey during her performance yesterday at our "Fearless" exhibition right on Woodward, at Lawrence Street Gallery in Ferndale. Renee's piece marks the first time in our 122-year history that we have had a performance artist in our membership. We are excited and very proud to share her work, and we look forward to many more decades supporting women artists throughout the metro Detroit region and beyond.

Brava Renee! And a big Congratulations to all of our artists whose work is on view at Lawrence Street through 10/31.
Be sure to stop in as you cruise down Woodward Avenue!

One more day until our DSWPS mid-month reception at Lawrence Street Gallery! Join us on Sunday, 10/19 in Ferndale at our "Fearless" exhibition, 2-4:30, with a performance artist piece at 3pm, followed by poetry readings about the art on the walls. Great art, great artists, and refreshments, too!

We are counting down until our mid-month reception at Lawrence Street Gallery this Sunday the 19th! 2-4:30 pm with a special performance piece at 3 pm, followed by poetry readings inspired by some of the artworks on display.

Come see this gorgeous piece by Kate Apple along with those by our other artists. And enjoy a wee bite while soaking it all in!

We are so excited to announce that for the first time ever in our 122-year history, our DSWPS membership includes a performance artist! Renee Dempsey will be performing at our October mid-month reception at Lawrence Street Gallery in Ferndale this coming Sunday afternoon at 3 pm, as part of our month-long "Fearless" exhibition.

Please join us on Sunday for this historic first for our society.
Renee comes to us having just performed a different piece in Grand Rapids' Art Prize.

Following Renee's 3pm performance, a number of poets will also be sharing their takes on some of the artworks on display. This should make for a great afternoon!

See you there! Lawrence Street Gallery, 2-4:30 pm on Sunday, October 19th, 2025.
