Juneteenth: Honoring Freedom, Resilience, and Progress

Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston learned of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Juneteenth stands as a celebration of freedom, perseverance, and the continued pursuit of equality.

At Unbound Second Watch Foundation, we honor the sacrifices, strength, and contributions of those who came before us. As we serve veterans and their families, we remain committed to building opportunities, restoring hope, and creating pathways to success for those who have served our nation.

At Unbound Second Watch Foundation, our mission is simple: help veterans access the benefits they’ve earned.

This Army veteran came to us looking for guidance navigating the VA system. Through advocacy and support, he was able to secure a VA disability rating increase, gain access to additional VA services, and begin the process of using VA education benefits for his dependents.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, we honor the legacy of the brave Tuskegee Airmen.

Despite facing segregation and discrimination, these trailblazing pilots, navigators, mechanics, and support personnel served with distinction during World War II, proving that courage, skill, and leadership know no color.

Their service helped pave the way for a more inclusive military and inspired generations of Americans to pursue excellence against all odds.

This Juneteenth, we remember their sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering commitment to service.

Today, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment of the brave men who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. D-Day marked the beginning of the Allied liberation of Western Europe and remains one of the most significant military operations in history. More than 156,000 Allied troops took part in the invasion, facing impossible odds in defense of freedom.

As a veteran-focused organization, we recognize that the freedoms we enjoy today were secured by ordinary people who answered an extraordinary call. Their legacy lives on through every service member, veteran, and military family who continues to serve their communities with honor.

Today, we remember those who never came home, honor those who carried the burden of war, and recommit ourselves to supporting the veterans who followed in their footsteps.
