Today members of The German Coast Chapter attended the Southeast District Independence Day Luncheon at Ralph’s on the Park. The luncheon was well attended. The New Orleans Chapter hosted the event. Our table decorations were pretty. We had an excellent speaker - Shane Lief, PhD Fellow at Tulane. It was a fun and edifying day! Our Chapter was delighted to host The Honorable Mary Ann Lemmon, Judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

German Coast members Yvette Bergeron and Cherie Thibadeaux recently placed a bouquet of patriotic flowers in honor of America’s birthday at St Charles Borromeo cemetery. The bouquet was placed on their Uncle’s grave, who was a WWII veteran and Purple Heart recipient.

Members of The German Coast Chapter attended the annual St Dominic’s Flag Day Celebration. Chapter Vice Regent Charlotte Nagy gave the presentation on The Origin of Flag Day. Following the presentation, the new flags were taken to the large flag pole and raised in memory of those who lost their lives in service to their country. A good time was had by all.

of the Month - Lanterns as Colonial Alarm

On the night of April 18, 1775, as British troops prepared to leave Boston, Paul Revere arranged for a signal to be displayed from the tower of Christ Church (today known as Old North Church).

The lanterns served as a predetermined signal to the colonists across the Charles River:
One lantern - British troops were leaving Boston by land
Two lanterns - British troops were crossing the river by boat
Two lanterns were ultimately displayed.

The signal was intended to alert local networks in case Revere was unable to leave Boston and deliver the warning himself.

German Coast Chapter daughter, Kim Bordelon made her way into the city to represent the chapter at the Sail 250 and Fleet Week New Orleans beautiful event. She had a fun job signing up the international participants and helping them find their assignments. Obviously a good time was had by all.

Early in May, Sabrina Schexnayder, Mary Engler, Kim Bordelon, Barbara Roth, and Charlotte Nagy travelled to Pensacola for the celebration of the Galvez victory of the Battle of Pensacola. The ladies attended a celebration service at the Basilica of St Michael the Archangel as well as a delicious award luncheon and finally a beautiful wreath laying ceremony. The Granaderos y Damas de Galvez and the Florida Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution did an outstanding job hosting this beautiful event.

The German Coast members came together for their May meeting at the beautiful Destrehan Plantation. The weather was delightful. It was the perfect location to pause for a moment to remember the ancestors of many of the daughters who were present.
