Recovery Speakers is a free digital archive dedicated to preserving and sharing the voices, history, and literature of the addiction recovery community. *We have no affiliation. Our library spans eight decades and continues to grow. We are committed to providing these audio resources for all future generations. Whether you are just beginning the recovery process or have been sober for many years y

ou’re sure to find the support you need from this extensive array of speakers. Over the past five years RecoverySpeakers.com has been working to digitize these old tapes in an effort to preserve this very important history. Most of the recordings are of speakers sharing their experience, strength, and hope at conferences, conventions, and workshops. Within the library are some of the oldest original recordings of Alcoholics Anonymous & Al-Anon’s early pioneers some never heard before this project began. Because the recovery movement continues to grow, we will constantly be increasing our selection of recordings. We attempt to provide the best sound quality for each talk. However, some of the older talks cannot be improved upon – still worth sharing!

🩺 Dr. William Duncan Silkworth, affectionately known throughout Alcoholics Anonymous as "The Doctor Who Loved Drunks," was one of the most influential figures in the early history of recovery ❤️

His groundbreaking understanding of alcoholism as an illness would later become a cornerstone of the Alcoholics Anonymous program and helped pave the way for millions of people to find recovery.

In this special recording from Dr. Silkworth's gravesite in Long Branch, New Jersey., A member of Alcoholics Anonymous shares a beautiful excerpt and reflection honoring the physician whose work changed countless lives.

More than eight decades later, Dr. Silkworth's legacy continues to live on through The Doctor's Opinion, sponsorship, service, and the countless men and women who have found freedom through recovery.

Thank you, Dr. Silkworth, for your compassion, your understanding, and your belief in alcoholics when few others did.

Think about that for a moment.

Seventy thousand people choosing to listen to one alcoholic share their experience, strength, and hope.

In a world of endless content, algorithms, trends, and distractions...

70,000 people have raised their hand and said:

"This matters."

Not because of us.

Because the message matters.

Because somewhere along the way, another alcoholic shared honestly about what it was like, what happened, and what life is like today.

And that simple act continues to save lives.

Some of the voices we've preserved are no longer with us.

Some spoke decades ago.

Some recorded their stories not knowing that years later someone on the other side of the world would hear their message and find hope.

Yet here we are.

Still listening.
Still learning.
Still carrying it forward.

Thank you for helping us preserve the history, voices, and message of recovery.

The language of the heart is still being spoken.

And people are still listening.

🎙️ ❤️

And the best is yet to come...

When people talk about the founding of Alcoholics Anonymous…

They talk about Bill W.
They talk about Dr. Bob.

But there’s another name that doesn’t get said nearly enough.

Anne Smith.

She opened her home in Akron, Ohio…
welcomed alcoholics when no one else would…
and helped build the spiritual foundation that AA still stands on today.

Bill W. called her the “spiritual mother of Alcoholics Anonymous.”

This recording is something rare.

Bob Smith Jr. — her son — sharing what it was like to grow up in that home… and to witness the quiet, powerful role his mother played in the early days of AA.

This isn’t just history.

It’s the human story behind it.

These are the final words of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Words that have been read in meetings…
shared between alcoholics…
and carried into the lives of millions seeking recovery.

“We shall be with you in the Fellowship of the Spirit…”

A simple promise.

That you are not alone.
That there is a way forward.
That a new life is possible.

This recording captures Bill W. — co-founder of AA — reciting those words himself.

Not just as history…

But as a living message.
