Thank you to Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 33, Ironworkers Local 21, Operating Engineers Local 234, and Northwest Iowa Building & Construction Trades Council for their generous donation of an outdoor coat rack for the homeless in our community. If you have a gently used coat you aren’t wearing anymore, please hang it up for someone in need!

Iowa House Republicans just voted for a new tax on health insurance in our state.

House Democrats noted that this new tax would raise your insurance rates. House Republicans insisted it wouldn’t.

We offered an amendment to their bill that health insurance companies couldn’t increase your rates because of their new tax. On the floor of the people’s house, they read a letter on behalf of the insurance industry opposing our amendment. And then every Republican there voted against it.

We also offered an amendment that Iowa’s legislators should have to pay more for our health insurance if that’s what they’re passing on to everyday Iowans. They voted against that, too.

There’s only one party increasing taxes on Iowans and it’s the Republicans.
