I'd like to get everyone's thoughts on an idea I've been kicking around for quite a while.

As many of you know, we've been working to build a strong relationship between the Des Moines/Polk County Iowa GMRS Group, the G.R.E.A.T. (GMRS Responders Emergency Action Team), and Polk County ARES. One idea that I believe could really benefit our group is building a deployable emergency communications trailer.

I currently have a 4x8 enclosed trailer that I'd be willing to dedicate to this project. The goal would be to create a mobile communications unit that could be deployed for community events, public service activities, emergency activations, and to assist Polk County ARES when needed.

Some ideas for the trailer include:
• A two-person communications workstation
• A deployable GMRS field operations repeater
• Storage for our extra radios and communications equipment
• VHF/UHF amateur radio capability for interoperability
• Battery power and room for future upgrades

For the most part, I already have much of what would be needed. The biggest remaining items would be things like a countertop and a couple of 12-inch base cabinets to build out the operating position.

Before anyone invests time, money, or labor into this project, I want to hear from the group. This wouldn't be my project—it would be something built for the Polk County Iowa GMRS Group and the G.R.E.A.T. Team, and I'd like it to have everyone's support before moving forward.

What do you think?

- Is this something our group could benefit from?
- What features would you like to see included?
- Would you be interested in helping with the build or contributing ideas?

Please share your thoughts in the comments. Your input will help determine whether this project moves forward.
