We were sad to hear the unfortunate news of the passing of LTC Betty Jean Stallings on 11 March 2026. LTC Stallings joined the Women’s Army Corps in 1963. After graduating from the Quartermaster Officer Advanced Course in 1969, she volunteered to serve in Vietnam. She spent a year as logistics officer at Long Binh. LTC Stallings served as a Comptroller at the Pentagon followed by her final assignment with the Department of Defense Office of the Inspector General. She retired from the Army in 1984; however, Stallings’ service continued. She served as parliamentarian of the WAC Veteran’s Association and the Vietnam Women Veterans Association, was a founding member of the Military Women’s Memorial in Arlington, and she supported the movement of the WAC Museum to its current location at Fort Lee as the AWM. We offer our condolences and thank her for her service and sacrifice.

In Memory of Colonel Patricia "Pat" Jernigan

We are saddened to share the passing of Colonel Patricia “Pat” Jernigan on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. An active member and supporter of the Memorial years before its dedication, she was 84 years old. A tireless volunteer and faithful mentor, Pat was always at the ready to lend her expertise, intellect and genuine compassion and concern to make a positive difference for a project, organization or person in need. An active and valuable member of numerous organizations, she lived a life of service.

A 28-year veteran of the United States military, Pat first joined the Navy in 1964, serving for two years before transitioning to the Army in 1966, first as a member of the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) and later the Military Intelligence (MI) Corps. One of the few non-nurse women who served in Vietnam, Pat was assigned to MACV Headquarters in Saigon. During the course of her military career, Pat also served with the 525th MI Group, US European Command, the 66th MI Group, US Army European Command, and Department of the Army Inspector General. Pat was especially proud to have served as the Deputy Chief of Security for the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee for President Reagan's second inaugural and as the Chief of Staff for the Army Intelligence Agency in her final assignment.

Pat is survived by her husband, David.

Having touched the lives of so many, our dear friend, Colonel Patricia “Pat” Jernigan, will be sorely missed.

Today marks 80 years since the start of the Nuremberg Trials following World War II. Did you know that there were many WACs involved in War Crimes Units, both in Germany and Japan? This image, taken in 1947, shows 1st Sgt. Mildred Qualls, who served in the 7708 War Crimes Group alongside 125 women, including WAC lawyers serving as legal counsel.

During World War II, the Women's Army Corps (WAC) played a vital role in supporting the U.S. military effort.

This photo captures two WAC members serving in the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF), which later became the Air Force in 1947.

WACs stepped up to fill essential non-combat positions, allowing more men to serve on the front lines. Their duties included operating control towers, managing radio communications, observing weather conditions, and handling administrative tasks.
These women are seen in an air traffic control or operations room, with one logging information while the other communicates via headset.

God bless these heroes🙏🏼🇺🇲❤️
