Joseph-Daniel Calling

Joseph-Daniel Calling Testimonies of marketplace leaders whose callings to turn societal adversity into opportunity, parallel that of the heroes of faith, Joseph and Daniel.

"Those …. who understood the times and knew what to do." I Chronicles 12

In the mid-70s, the Lord spoke a word to me that has shaped His calling on my life. Yet these words, are for each of those called as Josephs and Daniels of this day. They are indeed a word for this hour:

"Just as in the days of Joseph and Daniel, God will bring out mighty works at your hand ..... as you are led into the mid

st of the world, kings, rulers, leaders will be converted and humbled ..... you shall work beside them and be given authority ..... and your counsel will be heeded for their good." These words point to the thrust of the Joseph-Daniel calling – a calling that is an essential part of the “new wineskins” of the era we have entered. A calling that until this hour many have simply not fully understood. This calling:

• Involves an “interlinking of business enterprises with overriding ministry objectives”
• Reflects a model or prototype reflected by the patriarchs Joseph and Daniel
• Relates to incredible changes in process within the world today
• Involves sovereign moves of the Holy Spirit across this globe
• Points to unparalleled opportunities for anointed and called business leaders
• Reflects the impact each of these factors will have on the work of the Kingdom in the days ahead.

Scripture highlights times when cultures in conflict peaked and the power of God manifested. As we face thresholds and increases in persecution and anti-Semitism, there is a need to take a closer look at what Jesus noted concerning being in the world, but not of it, as we more wisely embrace the realities of these conflicts.

A modern-day illustration of how the power of God can birth significant change as believers face being a culture within a culture is the story of the rise of the post-1975 church in Vietnam. It unveils the triggers to the birthing process that results when the prayers of the community, across a generation are melded together in desperation. It points to a dimension of God that pe*****tes and uniquely displaces the intentions of darkness.

The point is that spiritually, we have arrived in a season requiring alternative spiritual solutions ….solutions that go beyond traditional thinking …..solutions that tap the supernatural realm in dealing with the unseen realities manifesting around us. Solutions that ones like Joseph and Daniel, like Moses and Elijah, Ezekiel and Isaiah each became intimately acquainted with and tapped.

In the glimmer suggested by Isaiah’s prophecy of deep darkness with the Lord arising over His people, the role of women, modern-day Josephina’s and Danielle’s can be expected to be significant. Ones who understand this unique partnership and role ….and are not intimidated by the naysayers whose tendency also is to deny the Power. The partnership and role and overriding motherly influence is protective rather than seductive. It suggests the response of the authority of man in recognizing and nurturing this role as such partnerships manifest.

More of the same harder has its place in the maintenance of growth. But more is required when culture-level birthing is on the horizon. When facing the unprecedented and combined with times of God’s favor, as we are in these days, the realities call for more, much more.

Something unusual was in the wind following the transfer of authority from Moses to Joshua. The “something more” required serious consecration on the part of the community, before the “unprecedented, the unusual” could take place when Joshua commanded the sun and the moon to hold their place in the heavens, to enable the victory of God’s people over the amassing forces of darkness they were facing.

At the crux of the response to the times and the dynamic that manifests from preparing to “reach beyond” the norm of the natural capabilities is in tapping this dimension of the Creative. In today’s toxic spiritual environments, faith for this level of the supernatural requires risk, and getting outside the boundaries of the status quo, of the standardized operating procedures that fit the mold of “more of the same harder.” It is where innovation resides; not to speak of how community, when tapping the Biblical model, is built and grows together, both spiritually and economically.

So, when the community-cultural anointing is maximized, risk is minimized with the result tapping the Creative. Paul explained this to the Corinthians when describing the result when the different gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor 12) interact and are blended with the unique dimensions of service and activities. Not unlike the time that Joshua (Joshua 3:5) told his people to prepare for God’s response to the conflict by consecrating themselves.

Likewise, Isaiah tapped this unique birthing with those the translators deemed as the “desolate ones,” those who have long been yearning for a fruitful heritage beyond the ordinary.
Shout for joy, O barren, desolate one. Enlarge the place of your tent and let the curtains of your habitations be stretched out. Do not hold back, lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left and your offspring will dispossess nations. Fear not, for you will not be ashamed. Do not be confounded, for you will not be disgraced. For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of Hosts is His Name, the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer. Is 54:1-5

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The Clint Eastwood Western by this title portrays the cultural dynamics of a time of explosive, lawless change. The theme involves a quest, a quest of recovering stolen resources. The character of “il bueno ….the good” points to the importance of engaging in the process. It suggests a different mode of thinking …. leading by faith …..in the restoration of being givers of Life.

This different mode of thinking is one in which life is gained, by grasping it lightly and giving it away. Peter took awhile to understand this but when he did, the dynamic transcended the natural realm as he healed the beggar with the words: “Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have I give to you. In the Name of Jesus, get up and walk.” What he had grasped, carried authority.

It’s enhanced by operating in community, tapping the dynamics of the Jewish roots to the faith ….as a culture within a culture. Neither Joseph nor Daniel were bashful or hesitant in employing their culturally-shaped faith in actuating key Kingdom dimensions of their leadership within their host cultures, and with their host leaders. AND through the prophetic anointing, wisdom and Life they imparted, they transformed their hosts’ views of reality, as well as their host cultures-of-death as a result.

The players, voices and senseless acts of lawlessness in today’s drama certainly reverberate with the same atmosphere reflecting the conflict dividing the good, the bad and the ugly. Yet emerging has been a wakeup call; and with a groundswell of voices extending beyond the committed believing community, has been a concerted pushback.

The players and voices emerging are unfazed by the threats of the lawless, the scoundrels and scavengers. Rugged and resolute in their own right, even Scripture labels them as strangers not fitting standard profiles. Ones conforming to a number of players from biblical accounts who emerged “suddenly,” resetting history with their mandates.

A realistic grasp of the quantum change underway should trigger a serious response from every committed believer.

During my recent visit to Israel I went to the Gaza border, to the October 7th massacre site. The reality of the loss, the rise in the global anti-Semitic response and the looming threat has caused a shift spiritually across the Jewish population. Soldiers carry Bibles and are reading them. Many are asking spiritual questions.

The Massacre, however, was pure wickedness, reflecting a death cult whose practitioners delighted in the merciless torture and slaughter of innocent, unarmed women, children and elderly, as well as all others …. with gleeful Gazan civilians following the murderers ravaging the possessions of the victims.

The utter travesty of this event was only superseded by the world’s response; shaped and activated by propaganda whose source could only be the pit of hell. Distortions of reality which side with victimizers over victims, attackers over defenders …. propagating lies over truth. It demands a reality check and mobilized responses from the community of faith.

At the forefront would be the judging of wickedness and the voices of wickedness. Not to be approached recklessly. Wickedness is entrenched and cruel. It incorporates a fierce stand against the Lord and His people. It is progressively being evidenced across the globe with manifestations of hate, anarchy and chaos. Honor must be employed in the ex*****on of judgment. Honor is a higher standard. Typically beyond self. It is a response of esteem, respect and reverence for God and others, especially brethren and the personal and societal standards that are bedrock to faith and community. It is the converse of the spirit of wickedness, yet triggers potency in virtues such as love, humility and faith.

Jesus came and imparted a new way of thinking. It was the crux of His Kingdom message. It pointed to and gave access to a subtle reality that had dominion over the natural order of things. This reality was a challenge to the traditions and mind-sets of the elite, the religious leaders. It exposed the darkness in their blended priorities, forming a status quo that had infiltrated and perverted their view of reality.

His message was one of Light and Life .... and power. It entailed a hunger for God’s presence, a yearning for more of this Kingdom reality that surrounds His presence. It represented the gateway into the realm of the spirit, the realm where God resides. A realm that Jesus consistently walked in, modeling Light and Life where the supernatural is a part of the natural order of things.

Jesus observed that many loved darkness better than Light because their deeds were evil. And so He offered the challenge to enter this realm of Life and Light with the simple admonition of “follow me.” That is all it took. His presence triggered a hunger for more of this reality, drawing people to Him. It was so strong that those whose mind-sets had not been blinded by darkness, dropped everything to follow Him.

In Jesus modeling this reality …. it combined His presence, the power, the giving of Light and Life … and His voice. He then told His followers that they would do greater works than what He did …. once He returned to God the Father. He said they would receive power when the Holy Spirit was given to those who believed. Power from on High to do these “greater works,” to be people of influence …. reflecting this reality ….. with His presence and power as givers of this Light and Life.

That power and Presence is enhanced exponentially, as believers amass and gather …. and whether by choice or circumstance, pe*****te the darkness with this Light. As the momentum grows into movements, so does its impact for influence …. as purveyors of this blessing of Life and Light. So it is that we enter a new season marked by the hunger of those reaching for more of this reality.

Jesus’ coming was also tied to a season-shift. One dramatically prophesied by Isaiah that pointed to his coming, but also to a time of darkness that would cover the earth. One in which the Light and Life that His followers reflected would change everything.
