We’re proud to celebrate Johnny Szumski and Dr. Ingrid Larragoity-Martin for co-presenting at the 2026 El Sistema USA National Symposium in Houston.

Centered around the theme We Are Here | Aquí Estamos, this year’s Symposium brought together teaching artists, program leaders, students, performers, and partners from across the national network for two days of learning, collaboration, dialogue, and music-making.

Johnny and Ingrid’s presentation explored how strengthening Social and Emotional Learning infrastructure in the classroom and beyond and prioritizing mental health outcomes transformed El Sistema Colorado’s organizational culture from top to bottom. This has helped create more supportive, connected, and student-centered spaces for young people, families, and staff alike.

In addition to co-presenting, Johnny also participated in a leadership panel discussion contributing to important conversations around the future of equitable, community-centered music education.

We are grateful to both Johnny and Ingrid for representing El Sistema Colorado on a national stage and for sharing the impactful work happening in our community as we continue to bring Music Without Barriers to life here in Denver. 💛

🎻 At El Sistema Colorado, Music Without Barriers means creating opportunities for every child to learn, grow, and belong through music, regardless of financial circumstances.

Our International Summer Strings Festival is another way we’re putting that mission into action by providing an affordable, high-quality summer music experience for young string students in our community.

According to the Afterschool Alliance, 1 in 2 kids in Colorado wants to attend a summer camp but can’t, with affordability being the biggest barrier. We believe every student deserves access to enriching summer opportunities that build confidence, creativity, friendship, and joy.

Through the Summer Strings Festival, students have the opportunity to make music together, work with inspiring teaching artists, and continue growing throughout the summer in a supportive and welcoming environment.

💛 As we wrap up another incredible year at El Sistema Colorado, we are filled with gratitude for the community that makes this work possible.

This year brought beautiful performances, meaningful partnerships, student growth, new opportunities, and countless moments of joy through music. None of it would happen without the dedication of our amazing students, families, teaching artists, staff, volunteers, and Board of Directors. Thank you for believing in our mission and showing up for our young people every single day. Thanks also to our sponsors, grant providers, and donors large and small for contributing to our programs.

At a time when many arts organizations and families are navigating difficult economic realities, your support matters more than ever. El Sistema Colorado remains committed to providing high-quality music education to Denver youth and ensuring that financial barriers never stand in the way of opportunity.

🎻 What a wonderful afternoon of music and community last Sunday at the El Sistema Colorado 2026 Spring Orchestras Concert! 🎶
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Mapleton Arts Center to celebrate the hard work and growth of our student musicians. We are so proud of everything our students accomplished this semester, and it was inspiring to see their dedication, creativity, and joy shared on stage.
From our pre-concert gathering with parents, to the amazing performances, events like these are a reminder of the power of music to bring people together and create meaningful opportunities for young people to grow in confidence, collaboration, and artistry.
