We are excited to announce that Back Door Residency is officially a part of Speedbump lil d 2026! SpeedBump lil d is a free, one day art tour that gives artists in Denton, TX a platform to show their work in a more intimate and personal way. Delaney Smith-Vaughn is the current artist-in-residence, so come talk with her about her latest work and experience in the studio.

Welcome our cofounder and Creative Director, Delaney Smith-Vaughn, as our second Back Door Resident!

Delaney is an artist and community builder based in Denton, TX. She uses fiber processes such as paper making, weaving, and dyeing to create sculptures and interactive books. Outside of her day job as a career coach for art and design students, she teaches workshops at community centers and institutions such as Penland School of Craft and The University of Pennsylvania.

Back Door Residency is made possible by generous support from Greater Denton Arts Council.

📍 The door to Back Door Residency is on the side of the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center facing Hickory Street. At this time, Back Door Residency is not wheelchair accessible due to the age of the building. Paper Chair + GDAC are working to make the space ADA accessible in the future.

We're still reeling over Monster Art Rally! It felt amazing to host such an inspiring event with our local artists and supporters. More than ever, we believe in the power of art in our community. We can't wait to keep up the work here in Denton!

Thank you to all of our sponsors for helping make this happen and a BIG thank you to Tried and True Salon for being an Easy Chair Sponsor for our very first Monster Art Rally. Your support for Denton artists made a huge impact! One of our artists said, "Seeing the community show up for artists en masse was so inspiring. Denton, you showed up in a BIG way and wow, we couldn't have done this without our volunteers! With 20+ volunteers, we are humbled with the support we received through Monster Art Rally.

Checking in over 600 people, helping 136 artworks find happy homes, setting up and breaking down, supporting our artists, keeping the music flowing, and keeping the vibes up, our volunteers were the backbone of Monster Art Rally! Our Denton community inspires us every day, and y'all have proven that we can do anything together. The funds raised at Monster Art Rally put money directly into the participating artists' pockets and will help us toward our goal of opening studio spaces and developing mentorships, workshops, and other essential resources for our community. Thank you thank you thank you!

We couldn't be more grateful to work with these wonderful groups at Monster Art Rally! We have been inspired our local art organizations and collectives since the beginning and were so excited to be able to show them off. Check out these organizations if you didn't get a chance to meet them at the rally.

9 local organizations, 80+ artists, 4 hours of jam-packed art making, we are over the moon! Our community is so strong here in Denton and it's because of organizations like these and people like you. The funds raised at Monster Art Rally put money directly into the participating artists' pockets and will help us toward our goal of opening studio spaces and developing mentorships, workshops, and other essential resources for our community. Monster Art Rally was a huge success! We are grateful for our 80+ artists for showing up and showing out! We sold 136 artworks and put $2900 directly into the hands of local artists. Thank you to everyone who came out! It’s clear the art community is strong in Denton. Insurgent is a Denton-based farm to to-go-box food trailer pulling up at Monster Art Rally! Owners Sam Lopez and Gabby Sanchez founded Insurgent in 2022 and have been wowing us with award winning cuisine using local ingredients and a focus on seasonality.
