Adaptive Swimming Lessons: A Vital Service for Children with Disabilities
Swimming lessons play a critical role in ensuring the safety of children with disabilities, particularly in preventing drowning incidents. Research indicates that children with autism are 62% more likely to drown than their neurotypical peers. With 1 in 43 children diagnosed with autism in Maryland and our community's proximity to water, it is essential that all children acquire water safety skills.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), children who participate in swimming lessons are 88% less likely to drown. To address this important need, Three Fish Aquatics, LLC offers specialized swim lessons for children with special needs and their caregivers.
In addition to the summer session, Three Fish Aquatics offers year-round "Special Fish" classes to help children continue practicing their skills and enhance their socialization. These classes, which occur every five weeks, also have a cost of $75.00 per session. The total out-of-pocket expense for a family over the course of the year is approximately $750, which provides the opportunity for children to receive training from a certified adaptive specialist.
As Three Fish Aquatics continues its mission to promote water safety for children in the special needs community, we are reaching out to the community for support. Your contribution to the $75.00 tuition would make a significant difference in helping families access this life-saving training.
Would you consider helping to save lives and provide children in the special needs community with the essential skills they need to be safe in the water?
