City or country, there is a place for you in our club! Welcome to Heart of Denton Homesteading 4-H! We’re a laid-back, hands-on 4-H club where kids (and their families) learn practical skills they can use in everyday life. This year we will cover topics ranging from raising animals and growing food to making soap, mending clothes, cooking from scratch, and more. If it’s useful, seasonal, old-fashi
oned, or a little messy, we're probably doing it! Our group is about more than just checking boxes. While we value the lessons we learn from competitions, we focus more on the functional skills we learn along the way that will serve us far more than a pretty ribbon! We strive to build community, foster leadership among our youth, and give back in the form of meaningful service to others. Every month we focus on a practical theme, such as gardening, animal husbandry, kitchen skills, traditional crafts, etc., and we hope to spark interests in our members that can turn into valuable skills and deeper project work. In addition to theme-related programming at our monthly meetings, we will offer field trips/outings, workshops and clinics led by our youth, and community resources for those who wish to dive deeper into a topic. Speaking of diving deeper, our club currently hosts projects in the areas of poultry (show and expanding to production this year), dairy goats, entrepreneurship, and performing arts. We have new projects forming including Leaders for Life, horticulture, and public speaking. In addition to these, we have members who participate in food & nutrition, natural resources, shooting sports, fashion, and veterinary science through county-wide projects or projects offered by other county clubs. Our business meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month, August-May, at the American Legion Post 71 in Denton. Monthly topics for the year will be available in the pinned post section of this page. Our club communicates through our page and the Band App. You will be invited to join our private Band group when you register as a member of our club through 4-H. Whether you’ve got acres or just a backyard, whether you've just started learning traditional skills or have been homesteading for years, there’s a place for you here. We hope to offer a brand new type of 4-H club to our community and we're excited that you're along for the ride!
