A letter from our founder.
I’m not even sure I can sum up my emotions over the last week, but I’ll bullet-point a few things.
I have been so overwhelmed by the support of the Kiwanis International organization. On Tuesday, Kiwanis Cortana packed over 76 Manna Meal Bags for us during their meeting. On Saturday, Kiwanis Club of Walker presented us with a check to fund our Walker pantries through the summer. These civic organizations are the backbone of our communities and have embraced our mission in ways I could have never imagined.
Saturday, YOU showed up at The Play District, and we packed over 200 bags. That’s 200 families gathering around the table and sharing a meal and conversation. Thank you to Excolo Medicine for being such an avid supporter of our mission. Thank you to The Play District for opening your space. Thank you to Scooped Up for slinging ice cream. Thank you to each of you for sharing your families, your laughs, and your community with me.
The Lighthouse Church… this week, a member and I fought off an evil frog that had made its home in the pantry. Turns out it got trapped and starved in there (the irony), but needless to say, laughs were shared. Then on Saturday, I found out they took an offering for us. We have funding for the summer here. The Lighthouse community has become something truly special.
I could go on and on, but I need you to know this: you can love your neighbors in big and small ways. I had a potential board member tell me this week, “I want to apply, but I’ve never been on a board…” Y’all, I’ve never done this before. I don’t have any idea what I’m doing, but I do know that this mission is more than a “dream since lunchtime.” This mission is a life’s purpose. It’s legacy work, and not a single day goes by that I’m not grateful for how you’ve shown up and helped shape this legacy.
I love you. In the fun, amazing, weird, and bestie way, I love each and every one of you with my entire, whole heart.
Honor your body. Love your neighbor. Feed them too.
Whit.
