Nancy Valenkamph Cancer Foundation On February 22, 2010 my wife Nancy lost her battle to neuro-endocrine carcinoma, a very rare cancer with no explanation to the cause.

I pledged to Nancy that I would continue the work she started in fund raising efforts for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Program and I would dedicate my life to raising money to find a cure.

As September comes to a close, we reflect on a month filled with important cancer awareness efforts. Including Childhood Cancer Awareness, Prostate Cancer Awareness, Blood Cancer Awareness, and Ovarian Cancer Awareness.

Each of these reminds us of something incredibly important: early detection, prevention where possible, and continued cancer research all matter.

We cannot overstate the importance of finding cancer early. Earlier detection can open the door to more treatment options, better outcomes, and more time with the people we love.

But detection is only part of the story.

Cancer research is what leads to new treatments, better therapies, improved survival rates, and hope for families facing a diagnosis.

For more than 16 years, the Nancy Valenkamph Cancer Foundation has remained committed to supporting cancer research and helping ensure that this vital work continues.

Even without the golf outing this year, your generosity has made our fundraising efforts successful, and we are deeply grateful.

Your support helps us continue doing what we believe in so strongly: contributing to the future of cancer research and standing behind the doctors, researchers, patients, and families who depend on progress.

As this awareness month comes to an end, the need does not.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time to stand with children and families facing diagnoses no family should ever have to hear.

Childhood cancers occur from birth through age 14 and can differ significantly from adult cancers in their biology, types, and treatment approaches. Leukemia is the most common childhood cancer, followed by brain and spinal cord tumors. Many childhood cancers are linked to gene mutations that occur very early in development, sometimes even before birth.

In 2026, approximately 9,680 children in the United States are expected to be diagnosed with cancer, while hundreds of thousands of children are affected worldwide each year.

The Nancy Valenkamph Cancer Foundation, together with the American Cancer Society, is proud to support efforts connected with the University of Cincinnati Medical School and research focused on childhood leukemia. Through research, advocacy, education, and patient support, we can help move closer to better treatments, better outcomes, and ultimately more cures.

This month, wear GOLD in honor of the children fighting, the survivors who inspire us, the families walking beside them, and the children we remember.

🎗️ September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️

This month, we wear gold in recognition of the children and families affected by childhood cancer.

Although childhood cancer is considered rare, it remains one of the leading disease-related causes of death among children. Raising awareness is important because greater knowledge can help families recognize concerning changes, seek medical care, and support children throughout diagnosis and treatment.

Some signs that may deserve medical attention include persistent or unexplained symptoms such as unexpected weight loss, unusual lumps, unexplained bruising, ongoing fatigue, or noticeable changes in behavior. Regular medical checkups and appropriate follow-up care are also important parts of protecting a child’s health.

The Nancy Valenkamph Cancer Foundation, together with the American Cancer Society, has helped sponsor research on childhood leukemia with the University of Cincinnati Medical School. We are grateful to everyone whose support helps make important cancer research like this possible.

Throughout September, we encourage you to wear gold, share awareness, support families, and help continue the fight against childhood cancer.

September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month. ❤️

This month, we’re helping raise awareness of blood cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, while standing with the individuals and families affected by these diseases.

Blood cancer impacts millions of people around the world, with approximately 1.3 million new diagnoses each year. Recognizing possible warning signs can be important. Symptoms may include persistent fatigue, unexplained bruising, swollen lymph nodes, frequent infections, night sweats, and unexplained weight loss.

The Nancy Valenkamph Cancer Foundation has also been involved in childhood blood cancer research alongside the American Cancer Society and the University of Cincinnati Medical School.

Awareness can lead to earlier conversations, earlier testing, and better outcomes. If you have concerns about symptoms or risk factors, talk with your healthcare provider and take advantage of appropriate screening and evaluation opportunities.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month 💙

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men other than non-melanoma skin cancer, and it is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death among men.

The good news is that early detection can save lives.

Screening may include a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and, when appropriate, a digital re**al exam. These screenings can help identify prostate cancer before it has had a chance to spread. When prostate cancer is found early, the five-year survival rate is extremely high.

The Nancy Valenkamph Cancer Foundation, along with the American Cancer Society, encourages men to talk with their healthcare provider about prostate cancer screening and what is appropriate based on age, family history, and personal risk factors.

This September, wear blue, start the conversation, and encourage the men in your life to get screened. 💙

The Nancy Valenkamph Cancer Foundation will be there and would love for you to stop by, say hello, and join in the festivities. This is always an incredible community event, and the Luminary Ceremony is especially meaningful and unforgettable.

We are now just 4 days away from the Tippecanoe County Relay For Life! 💜

Join us Saturday, August 29, from 4-8 PM at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds in Lafayette, Indiana, as our community comes together to celebrate survivors, remember those we have lost, and continue the fight against cancer.

The Nancy Valenkamph Cancer Foundation is proud to be part of this special event, and we would love for you to stop by our table, say hello, and learn more about the work we are doing to help individuals and families affected by cancer.

Relay For Life is more than an event. It is an experience that brings people together through hope, remembrance, and a shared determination to make a difference. One of the most meaningful moments of the evening is the Luminaria Ceremony, when we honor those who have fought cancer, those who are still fighting, and those whose memories continue to inspire us.

The event is free and open to the public, with survivor and participant laps, dinner and entertainment, luminaria bags, photo booth, face painting, balloon artist, door prizes, cancer information, and much more.

Please come out, bring your family and friends, visit everyone at the Relay, and be part of something truly special.

Together, we can celebrate. Together, we can remember. Together, we can fight back. 💜
