DHS JAG had a great day in Demopolis! We toured local businesses and industries and learned all about their services and products, and careers in their fields.
We started out at Dana Trucking (Mr. CJ Davis), where we got to climb in a new truck, see the maintenance shop, and watch a tank being cleaned at the wash rack. We then made our way to Doric-South where we heard from Bryant Turberville and saw the process of cutting monuments and making vaults, and learned about funeral service setups. Next we visited South Fresh Feeds, where we got to see the process of making feed.
We then headed to Rooster Hall where we were treated to a wonderful lunch catered by La Gran Acienda and provided by Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce, Marengo County Economic Development Authority, and Demopolis Industrial Development Board. During lunch, we learned about more career options from Mrs. Diane Brooker with Alabama Power, Mr. Kirk Stephens with DIBD, and Mrs. Angie Miller with Marengo County Economic Development Authority. Mayor Woody Collins gave us great advice about joining the workforce and also discussed career options with the City of Demopolis.
Next, we began our downtown walking tour and stopped at Robertson Bank where we learned about banking careers from Mrs. Katie Windham.
Around the corner, we made a stop by The Garage and got to see The Ballroom.
Our next to last stop was the Demopolis Police Department, where we heard from Chief Rex Flowers (DPD) and Chief Greg Russell (DFD) about careers in public service.
Last, we toured Two Rivers Lumber (Jody King) where we got to walk through and see the lumber-making process.
It was the best day! Demopolis, Alabama has so much to offer!
