This is the story of what happened and why we started this and a letter i sent to the vet to make them change their ways.
My name is Jesse Gabel, I brought my pup in Onyx Gabel on 07/07/2024 Sunday morning as he wasn’t eating and throwing up and would not go #2. Dr. Charlie examined him and did blood tests, and x-rays, there was nothing in his blood, and his Xray showed some cloudy thing in his stomach. They gave us a prescription to get soft food to form around it so he may pass it and a shot that wouldn’t make him throw up, if he did throw up it would be because of the foreign body rejecting the medicine. Is what the nurse said. Monday morning, he threw up and we brought him back and set up the surgery for Tuesday 07/09/2024. It was a lot of money that I didn’t have, luckily my company I work for was willing to loan me the money to take care of my baby. At the end of the workday for healthy pets around 7PM we came to pick up Onyx, Dr. Charlie ensured a successful surgery we got the foreign body out, and he was on the road to recovery and I was happy I’d have my boy back. Wednesday 07/10/2024 we came in the following morning for a checkup, Dr. Charlie said the incision looked good and that he was okay he should start eating and acting normal again soon. He was far from right. At first, we had to basically spoon feed Onyx and even then, he would barely eat, we called Wednesday afternoon and they said if he isn’t eating tomorrow morning then bring him in. Thursday 07/11/2024 we brough Onyx in as he wasn’t getting better. He had a small purple spot on his incision, we don’t know what that is it looked like bruising. The “Vet” there was Dan something and he seemed like he didn’t know what was going on, he told us that Onyx licked it and it got infected (A guess) he didn’t lick it at all he was too weak to do anything of the sort. They told us not to worry about him and they would put him on stronger antibiotics, he was on three (3) IV bags of antibiotics all day, when we came to pick him up at your closing hours he was even worse off, the small purple spot was the size of a volleyball and he told us to take him to the emergency room, i begged and pleaded to keep him there as we didn’t have any money and they wouldn’t accept him, but the vet said no we called they know you’re coming. They raced him in on a stretcher, told us he had some kind of infection and said it would be about 3,000 dollars to keep him overnight. I just spent 6,500 dollars at healthy pets, I had 0 dollars to my name. They kept us there for three hours coming back with different “payment” plans, when in the first place we explained to them we had no money can they help him, and they said NO. How can you call yourself an emergency vet clinic if you aren’t going to help when there’s an emergency. They let us go around 12 AM its now Friday 07/12/2024. We went home and put him in his bed with a blanket and water and stayed up all night with him until about 3 AM we fell asleep. Around 4:50AM my worse nightmare was coming to life. He was having trouble breathing I picked him up to see if he would get up or use his own legs but his body was limp, I checked light into his eyes looking for pupil response and there was nothing, me and my wife had to sit there and watch our Onyx die right before our eyes with nothing we could do because NO ONE would help. I have never been more sad in my life, its spiraled me into a deep depression along with his brother Stitch who is so lost because his brother is gone forever. I think you guys need to either not do foreign body surgeries without keeping them overnight, or you guys need to test for sepsis the day after the surgery and the second day for precautions like this. My dog was 1 years and 7 months old, he didn’t deserve the way he went. He never hurt a fly and was the happiest of dogs. Please take this into consideration for future animals, I never want anyone to go through what we went through.
