🔥🛁 SCALD BURNS CAN HAPPEN IN SECONDS — LET’S PREVENT THEM. 🛁🔥

From the Delray Beach Firefighters Benevolent, we want to remind our community that scald injuries can happen at any age — but children, older adults, and people with disabilities are especially at risk.

Hot bath water, coffee, and even microwaved soup can cause devastating injuries. In fact, scald burns are the second leading cause of all burn injuries.

Here are a few simple ways to help protect your family:

✅ Teach children that hot things can burn
✅ Install anti-scald devices on tub faucets and shower heads
✅ Create a kid-free zone (at least 3 feet) around stoves and areas where hot food or drinks are prepared or carried
✅ Place hot liquids and food toward the center of tables or back of counters
✅ Before putting a child in the bath (or getting in yourself), test the water with your hand, wrist, and forearm — it should feel warm, not hot

🚑 If a burn happens:
Cool the burn immediately with cool water for 3–5 minutes, cover with a clean dry cloth, and seek medical care if needed.

A few seconds of awareness can prevent a lifetime of injury. Let’s keep our families safe. ❤️
