This week’s 5 hygiene kits are packed and ready.

Each one includes basic essentials and clean water. Nothing complicated — just consistent, practical help where it’s needed.

We keep it simple. We keep it repeatable. And we follow through.

Next week starts now. If you want to contribute, keep an eye out for the upcoming needs list.

, first week down! 100% of our target goal, was reached!

This week, Sylvia, Sandra, and Paula all stepped up to support Volusia Cares.

Socks, food, toiletries, bags—real items going directly into care kits for people right here in our community.

No big organization behind it. Just local people choosing to help.

That’s how this movement grows.

This is me and my brother Rick.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this picture.

Because it represents something I didn’t always have growing up—and something I didn’t fully understand until it was almost gone.

My life hasn’t been clean or easy.
There were years of instability. Times where things didn’t feel steady. Times where I had to figure things out without the guidance I needed.

That kind of upbringing does something to you.
It hardens you in some ways—but it also leaves gaps. Gaps in connection. In trust. In what family is supposed to feel like.

For a long time, me and my brothers weren’t what I wished we were.

But then… things started changing.

We started talking more.
Spending time differently.
I started seeing them not just as my brothers—but as men I could actually learn from. Lean on. Build something real with.

It felt like I was finally getting what I had missed.

And then it was gone.

Rick took his life.

And I wasn’t ready for that reality. I don’t think anyone ever is—but it hit me in a way I still can’t fully explain.

Because I wasn’t done.

I wasn’t done building that relationship.
I wasn’t done being his brother in the way I had just learned how to be.

And before I could even catch my footing… Damon started falling apart.

Losing Rick broke him.

And I watched it happen. The spiral. The substance abuse. The slow destruction.

And then he was gone too.

That kind of loss doesn’t leave you.
It doesn’t wrap up neatly. It doesn’t teach you a clean lesson and move on.

It stays.

Late nights. Quiet drives. Random memories that hit you out of nowhere.
Moments where you realize how much was left unsaid… and how much you would’ve done differently if you had the chance.

But somewhere in all of that… something shifted.

At Rick’s funeral, I saw how many people showed up.

Not just numbers—but stories.

People talking about how he helped them. Showed up for them. Did things quietly without needing recognition.

And I realized something that stuck with me—

Even with everything he was dealing with… he still gave to others.

That mattered.

So I had to make a decision.

I could let everything I’ve been through—my upbringing, the losses, the weight of it all—pull me under…

Or I could build something out of it.

Something real.
Something consistent.
Something that actually helps people—right here, where we live.

That’s where Volusia Cares came from.

Not from perfection.
Not from having resources or a big plan.

From choosing to show up anyway.

Some nights are still heavy.
That doesn’t go away.

But now I move with it instead of against it.

Every care kit.
Every small act.
Every time we show up for someone who needs it—

That’s how I carry them forward.

That’s how I make sure their lives meant something beyond the way they ended.

This isn’t just a project.

This is personal.
