Today, Troop 255 joins our community in recognizing Indigenous Peoples’ Day. ⚜️

We honor the Indigenous peoples whose histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions are an important part of the story of our country and the lands we call home.

Scouting teaches us to respect others, serve our communities, care for the outdoors, and always keep learning about the people and places around us.

Today is an opportunity to do exactly that. ❤️

🏹 A Weekend of Brotherhood, Cheerful Service & Leadership!

Scouts from Troop 255 attended the Fall Order of the Arrow Service Weekend at Camp Sol Mayer!

Throughout the weekend, Scouts came together for service projects, fellowship, and the opportunity to give back to our council camp while strengthening the bonds of brotherhood.

👏 A special congratulations to two of our Troop 255 Scouts, Ritchie and David, who completed their Order of the Arrow induction! This is an exciting milestone in their Scouting journey, and we're proud to welcome them into the OA brotherhood!

We’re also proud of Enzo, Troop 255 Senior Patrol Leader, who participated in the induction ceremony, helping welcome the newest members into the Order of the Arrow.

The Order of the Arrow is Scouting America’s National Honor Society, recognizing Scouts who exemplify the Scout Oath and Law through leadership, service, and brotherhood.

Congratulations to our newest Arrowmen, and thank you to all our Scouts who represented Troop 255 this weekend! 🏕️⚜️

You've probably heard someone say they're an Eagle Scout.

But what does that actually mean?

Eagle Scout is the highest rank a Scout can earn, but getting there involves a whole lot more than collecting badges.

A Scout works his way through the ranks while learning outdoor and life skills, serving his community, earning merit badges, taking on leadership positions and eventually planning and leading a major service project.

And it doesn't happen overnight.

The journey requires years of commitment, responsibility, leadership and perseverance.

That's part of what makes earning Eagle such a meaningful accomplishment.

But here's something we think is just as important:

Every Scout benefits from the journey, whether Eagle is ultimately his destination or not.

Every campout. Every leadership opportunity. Every service project. Every new skill.

It all counts.

🥾🏜️ Troop 255 takes on Big Bend! 🌵⛰️

Sharing a few photos from our latest hiking adventure in beautiful Big Bend!

There’s nothing quite like getting Scouts out on the trail. Miles hiked, packs carried, meals made, challenges worked through, and plenty of memories made along the way.

Trips like this are what Scouting is all about: leadership, teamwork, resilience, outdoor skills, and learning how much you’re capable of when the trail gets tough.

A huge shoutout to our leaders and Scouts for stepping up, looking out for each other, and making this another great Troop 255 adventure.

The views weren’t too bad either. 😉🏜️

Camping is awesome.

But some of the most important things Scouts bring home don't fit in a backpack.

1️⃣ Leadership
Scouts don't just follow adults around. As they progress, they learn to lead other Scouts, make decisions and take responsibility.

2️⃣ Problem solving
Plans change. Things go wrong. Scouts learn how to assess the situation, adapt and figure it out.

3️⃣ Service
From community projects to Eagle Scout projects, service is built into Scouting from the beginning.

4️⃣ Independence
Cooking. Packing. Planning. Navigation. First aid. Managing responsibilities. Scouts learn how to do things for themselves.

5️⃣ Character
Scouting asks young people to practice honesty, responsibility, respect and doing the right thing even when nobody is watching.

And somewhere between the campfires, merit badges, muddy boots and adventures, something pretty cool happens:

They grow up.

When you hear "Boy Scouts," you might immediately think camping, knots and merit badges.

That's part of it.

But Scouting is about a whole lot more.

⚜️ It's learning how to lead a group of your peers.
🧭 It's figuring out what to do when the plan doesn't work.
🔥 It's learning skills with your own hands instead of watching someone do them on a screen.
🤝 It's serving the community you live in.
🎒 It's becoming more independent with every adventure.

And yes, there's plenty of camping, hiking, cooking, traveling and having fun along the way.

Scouts BSA is for young men ages 11–17, and no previous Scouting experience is required.

Camp Hale 2026: Mission Accomplished! 🏕️⛰️

What a week for Troop 255!

From early morning 5-mile hikes and incredible mountain views to snow sports in the middle of summer, our Scouts packed more adventure into one week than most people do all year.

They challenged themselves on the shooting ranges, explored robotics, earned merit badges, made new friends, and created memories that will last a lifetime. Along the way there were plenty of laughs, late-night camp stories, unforgettable experiences, and of course a mandatory stop at Buc-ee's.

Summer camp is about much more than the activities. It's about building confidence, developing leadership, stepping outside your comfort zone, and growing as a Scout. This week was full of all of that and more.

A huge thank you to the leaders, volunteers, and families who helped make this trip possible. Most importantly, congratulations to our Scouts for representing Troop 255 with enthusiasm, character, and Scout spirit.

The gear is unpacked, the laundry is finally getting done, and the memories will last forever.

Joaquin J. Taylor
Del Rio High School 2026 Class Valedictorian

He is the son of Diego Taylor and Vanessa Jones.

In the fall, he will be attending Abilene Christian University where he will major in Mechanical Engineering. His goal is to graduate from Abilene Christian University with honors, continue his education with earning a master’s degree, and eventually open his own engineering firm. He has obtained 30 college hours and took 7 AP classes. He was a member of the National Honor Society, Robotics, National Technical Honor Society, Cross Country, Track and Field, and Boy Scouts of America Troop 255. His officer positions include Robotics Drive Team and Senior Patrol Leader with Troop 255. His total scholarships amount is $46,630.06. His favorite high school memory is when the Robotics Team 4063, TrikzR4Kidz, was selected as an alliance partner for finals at FRC World Championships in Houston, TX. He would like to thank his parents for always pushing him to be his best and keeping him going when he wanted to stop. They would put him back together when he crashed or fell apart.
