We've asked Elder Care Services in DeKalb, Illinois
to be patient,
to trust the process.

And because they've been willing to let their garden get weedy and gnarly and messy, we've been rewarded with three types of clover:
red clover
white clover
and beautiful Melilotus officinalis
aka sweet yellow clover

These super legumes fix nitrogen in the soil, which means they repair it.

We could have poisoned the ground, tilled it, smoothed it
and then planted a clover cover crop.

But instead,
we let Mother Nature help us
help her.

Next, we edit out the plants that are a bit too bullying to be helpful in a civilized garden:
Chicory (even though she's a personal favorite)
Queen Anne's lace
Dandelion
Indian Prairie grass
Thistle
and Pigweed

Soon, we'll have a pretty meadow,
good for strolling, bird watching, reflection & relaxation.

Thank you, Elder Care, for gardening with us 🤍
