Health and wellbeing are resources that enable individuals to thrive and reach their full potential which is a foundation for earning a living. However, inequalities in health care access still persist and plagues so many nations including Thailand. When I volunteered in rural Thailand, I saw shortages of medical staff and modern equipment everywhere. When patients require more advanced care, they must travel long distances. When they arrive at public hospitals, they face long delays even for simple ailments due. Patient Transferring System inefficient is another issue should be concerned. I encountered an atrophied-arm young man, major workforce entry, while volunteering. He didn’t get the medical attention he needed on time because his doctor referral note had been pickpocketed, the limitations of the patient transfer systems and the inequality of healthcare access!

To figure out how to resolve this problem, your idea is more than welcomed.

Last weekend we traveled to Ban Nong Koo School in Mahasarakham to aid RAMA Found in providing free medical service to three local districts including four schools, with the help and coordination of local authorities.

Throughout the morning I distributed toothbrushes and toothpaste and demonstrated to children how to properly take care of their teeth as they waited in line for the dentists, rewarding them with school supplies. We also formally donated toothbrushes and toothpaste to three kindergartens and an elderly education center.

In the afternoon we presented personal health and nutrition cartoons and documentaries on the TV screen. By the end of the day, about 700 patients were treated by the dentists with many more examined by the doctors.

Thank you to RAMA Found for continuing to serve our communities and to the local schools, hospitals and authorities for coordinating the successful day. And thank you for all of your support.

Around this time last year in Uthai Thani we encountered a 16-year-old boy who had fallen off his motorbike, tearing the nerves and tendons in his arm. He had visited many public hospitals, often having to travel many hours, but due to not receiving care in time, the muscles in his arm had atrophied by the time we met him. The unfortunate outcome truly demonstrated to me the impact of the inequality of healthcare access in Thailand, further inspiring our service with RAMA Found.

Next Saturday (August 4th) we are off to Maha Sarakham province for our next volunteer trip with RAMA Found.

On Tuesday June 26th, we went to Rama Found's office in Bangkok and donated a gift of THB 63,900 along with a TV screen, DVD player and personal health educational media, toothbrush/toothpaste sets, vitamin tablets and school equipment. None of this would be possible without your kind support: again, thank you so much for helping our cause.

We also met with Khun Phueng, the organization's secretary, and planned to join the next volunteer medical service trip to Maha Sarakham province on the weekend of August 4, 2018.

The organization also extends their encouragement towards the volunteers at RAMA Found and welcomes any future collaborations. Thank you to the Thai Health Promotion Foundation!
