You’ve probably seen wire fishing traps piled high in yards up and down the coast. They’re tough to get rid of, especially once tree roots creep in.

This year, we’ve recycled over 170 tons of material from Vinalhaven alone, helping locals clear old gear so can happen. Check it out:

Kudos to Matt Louis and the Gouldsboro crew!

All 2,000 traps in the yard have been processed and are now ready to be crushed. Thanks to their hard work, the site will be cleared in just a few weeks.

Please bring old traps to the Ice Wharf (70 Old Harbor Rd). If you’re unable to haul them over, send us a DM, and we can swing by to help.

This year, we’ve been hard at work turning effort into impact. Across our three facilities, we’ve recycled 5,389 traps, totaling 172.5 tons!

Gouldsboro: 486 traps (plus 2,000+ already processed that await recycling)
Matinicus: 957 traps
Vinalhaven: 3,946 traps

This year, the OceansWide crew worked across Boothbay Harbor, Vinalhaven, Matinicus, Criehaven, and Gouldsboro, pulling thousands of traps from the Gulf of Maine and giving damaged habitats a chance to heal.
