Allisons Mothers Day
So many of you remember the two birds we recently rescued. They had not been out of their cages in over ten years, were at starvation weights( and had been for a few years apparently)
Had not had baths in over ten years, no toys nor any kind of entichment for years. Because of this the cockatoo developed a horrible mutilation problem- literally chewing her body because of anxiety.
They both have osteoarthritis since they could not move very much and had just “ aged in place”. The vets put them on three very powerful meds- basically keeping them drugged.
This entire situation made me very sad ( actually angry).
Forward to just a few weeks ,our cockatoo girl is eating our perfectly balanced food( with extra veggies and some fruit) like a crazy woman!
She is no longer picking and we have weaned her off of all meds, she is singing, playing with toys and Interacting with all of us all day!
The big Macaw boy has captured my heart- he has fallen in love with me and spent Mother’s Day
Making me a “ nest” while singing and then came out to have lunch with all of us! He is also eating well, loving baths and being a little cuddle bug with me- living his best life ever- drug free( except for glucosamine / chondroition)!
Just thought you needed an update.
We have not put the new vest onto our girl as she is deathly afraid of it, we are going to the vet this week and are going to take the old one off- fingers crossed- BIG STEP!! 🙏🤞❤️🦜
