This was what 2.2 megabytes looked like in 1966

In 1956, IBM shipped a 5MB hard drive… and it weighed over a ton. Yep, just 5 megabytes required a forklift and a cargo plane. Today, that’s not even one iPhone photo.

The national monthly call on Saturday, May 9 at noon promises to be VERY interesting! Learn more here. As always, the call will be recorded and archived shortly after, so you can watch it when convenient for you.

Why are we doing this?
Sending CCL's form emails and calling is a climate change action that is forceful, fast, and free. These contacts are proven to be effective.

Who writes the content of the script?
The content is written by Citizens Climate Lobby and it is based on the current legislative process in Washington.

The most important thing is the frequency of the contact.

How can I do more?
You can reach out to friends and family and forward this email to them. Our collective action works.

THANKS!
Leslie

Legislation has passed the Iowa House and is lingering in the Senate. This bill (HF 2297) would require new homes to be built with passive radon mitigation systems. Radon (as you probably know!) is a colorless, odorless gas that can cause cancer. It is VERY common in Iowa, more than almost any other state at levels that are not safe. It is our understanding that Senator Klimesh is skeptical of the legislation. We really need some folks from his district to give a little push on this. Of course we would welcome advocacy on your part but also would appreciate any suggestions you might have of folks who might have something to say on this topic.

Please consider making a quick phone call or email about this. All you need to say is that you are a constituent, give your zip code, and tell him that you want HF 2297 passed without delay. You can also say that this is one solution for our high cancer rates. (duh!) No other comment needed. Jann, as the Speaker of the House, he controls what gets voted on, and therefore he is supposed to be responsive to all Iowans, beyond only his district.

lung cancer is the most deadly cancer in Iowa. This bill is a very cost-effective and common-sense change to the building code when radon is such a common underlying risk factor for so many people.
