Laborers Local 159

Hey there 159'ers, Next Monday September 7th is our day! As always, we will be walking in the Labor Day parade in downtown Decatur, as well as participating in the picnic at Fairview Park immediately following the parade. These events are for full members of 159 and of course that includes retirees and apprentices. We will have shirts and hats at the parade, and candy and beads to pass out to parade watchers. We will also have wristbands for you and your family if you would like to attend the picnic afterwards. See ya then!

Full house for some refresher training at our union hall this fine Saturday morning. Thank you to the Illinois Laborers' & Contractors Joint Apprenticeship & Training Program and the Mt. Sterling instructors for always taking care of us, even if it's at a moment notice.

Look who stopped in this morning while visiting from Florida, Legendary 159'er/asphalt screed man/ 51 year member....Larry Grace! Larry always stops in the hall when he's home for a visit, and it's always great to see him!

The other day we stopped by the Decatur Orthopedic Center expansion project in Mt. Zion, IL., and we caught a quick interview with one of the coolest around, legendary 159'er Jermaine Campbell.

Hey all, as we get closer to the end of the week, we wanted to take a moment and recognize one of our LiUNA Local 159 V.O.C. (Volunteer Organizing Committee) Captains, Lorinda Chastain. She approached the local just a couple weeks ago about doing a back to school drive, and thanks to her and the donations from the membership, it was a great success.We look forward to doing it again next year and collecting even more items to donate to those who need it most! We are lucky to have V.O.C. captains like Lorinda, and also Kelli Davis , and Wes Lahman, that recognize needs in our communities and find ways that 159'ers can step up and lend a hand. We are already working on some ideas for the fall and even next year for the VOC, so any member that wants to be a part of that please feel free to reach out.
