Sangamon River Clean Up

Sangamon River Clean Up This page was created to inspire you to help keep our waterways clean. Post photos here of your clean up adventures. Where did you go and what did you find

We live in a society that is set up for connivance. Single use plastic bottles, styrofoam, lids, straws and so much more. All of this trash does not get recycled or even dumped at your local landfill. These items find their was into our streams, rivers, lakes, and eventually our oceans. Our Sangamon river is 246 miles of Illinois history. The construction of the dam in 1920 created Decatur Lake. O

ur lake is the trapped water of the Sangamon river. We all owe a duty to keeping our water ways clean for our children, for our community, and for the aquatic live who calls our river home. Doing your part is so simple.

1.) Always dispose of your trash in a trash bin.
2.) Where other fail you pick up the slack. Grab a bag and pick up trash.
3.) Teach your children to respect our water ways by setting a good example. If you pack it in pack it out.
4.) Don't leave fishing twine behind. We all must do our part to save our river! Weekly Scavenger lists will be posted here to make picking up trash fun. Remember not everything you find out there will be trash sometimes you find treasures too. Be safe, wear good shoes, gloves, and pants. This is a independent activity. We don't have group meet up's at this point. You set the pace the schedule. Now get out there and save our Sangamon!
