Imagine this: An 82-year-old woman wakes up on a Tuesday morning. She makes one cup of coffee. She sits by the window. And she waits β not for anything in particular β just for something to happen. For someone to come. For the phone to ring.
It doesn't.
This is the quiet reality for millions of seniors across our country. No crisis. No emergency. Just day after day of profound, invisible loneliness.
But what most people don't realize is that isolation isn't just sad β it's deadly. π
Research shows that chronic loneliness in older adults is linked to:
πΉ A 26% increased risk of early death
πΉ Higher rates of dementia and cognitive decline
πΉ Depression, anxiety, and loss of will to live
πΉ Dangerous neglect of health β skipped medications, missed meals, falls gone unnoticed
For some seniors, the loneliness becomes so heavy that they simply stop fighting. Not because their bodies gave out β but because no one was there to remind them they mattered.
That's where YOU come in. π―οΈ
Through Janie's Light, friendly visitor volunteers spend just a few hours a month sitting with isolated seniors β listening, laughing, sharing a cup of coffee, and letting them know they are seen, valued and loved by Christ.
You don't need a degree. You don't need specialized training. You just need a willing heart.
One visit can be the difference between a senior who gives up β and one who has something to look forward to.
β¨ Could you be that light for someone?
