Postmark Rule &
Michigan Mail-In Ballots:
Vote Voiced Voter Guide
In this Vote Voiced voter education video, we break down the postmark rule and explain what it means for Michigan mail-in (absentee) ballots, including how to make sure your ballot gets counted!
In Michigan, your absentee ballot must be received by your city or township clerk by 8 p.m.on Election Day to be counted, except for military and overseas voters who can have ballots counted if they're postmarked by Election Day and received within six days after the election.
Because of recent changes with postal postmarks, dropping your ballot in a blue USPS mailbox doesn't always guarantee the postmark date you expect, which is why when and how you return your ballot matters.
Whether you're voting absentee for the first time or want to make sure your ballot arrives on time, this guide gives you the clarity you need to protect your voice in the election.
CP Helpful tips:
• Request your ballot early!
• Mail your ballot with plenty of time to spare.
• Use your city/township ballot drop box or hand-deliver to your clerk.
• Track your ballot online at Michigan.gov/Vote.
