Mildred Engel was crowned Miss Days of '76 on August 2, 1946, after winning the popular vote at the Miss '76 Western Dance held at the Elks Club. Sponsored by the Days of '76 Saddle Club, the event also featured fellow candidates Arlyse Brown and Enda Minard, pictured here on horseback with Engel.

On Sunday, April 19th the Deadwood Elks Lodge #508 held their annual Gerald Crary Youth Recognition Banquet. Special thanks to Samantha Burleson for all of her hard work organizing this event! Thank you to our guest speaker, Deadwood City Commissioner (and Elk member) Sharon Martinisko, the Lead-Deadwood National Honor Society, Box Elder Job Corps Culinary Arts crew, and all of the Elks who helped make this event a success. Congratulations to our scholarship winners, Americanism winners, Students of the Month, and Hoop Shoot winners! It is a wonderful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the youth in our community!

Today you can watch three South Dakota kids compete in the Elks National Hoop Shoot Finals, using the link above. You can also join us at the Deadwood #508 Elks Lodge for a watch party.

Caralina Mebius is in the 10-11 year old division from the Brookings Lodge. The 8-9 year olds shoot first at 10 a.m., so I can't give you an exact time. I would guess around 11:15 CT.

At 2:30 p.m. CT, Hudson Myers (Deadwood Lodge) and Emily Crawford (Rapid City Lodge) will compete in the 12-13 year old division.

Go South Dakota!
