Catholic Daughters of the Americas Celebrate CDA Sunday, October 20, 2024
The Catholic Daughters of Americas (CDA) are one of the oldest and largest organizations of Catholic women in the United States. The third Sunday in October is celebrated as “CDA Sunday” annually.
Court Immaculate Conception #996, our local court, is affiliated with St. Mary DeKalb. It was formed in 1926 and has been serving our local community for 98 years. CDA women enjoy each other’s company at meetings, share Catholic spirituality, give generously to local and national charities and work hard for their parishes and communities.
This year’s theme is “Be a Beacon of Hope, a Light in the Darkness.” We provide hope by serving the charities and organizations we support both financially and spiritually. In addition, each year we plan and execute “Circle of Love” activities. For instance, we recently completed a project where we spiritually adopted staff members from local parishes and we pray rosaries with specific intentions requested by our members. Spending time together as Catholic women is important to us as we gather for Mass, have social time and share meals. This year we started a project to recognize and provide spiritual support for our priests in the DeKalb Deanery.
An important part of our service is supporting local charities such as We Care Pregnancy Center, St. Vincent DePaul, Hope Haven, Safe Passage, and our local Catholic parishes and Catholic schools. The National charities supported by the court are Habitat for Humanity, Catholic Relief Services, LaBoure’ Society, Holy Cross Family, the National Center on Sexual Exploitation and SOAR (Support Our Aging Religious).
We invite Catholic women from any parish to join our ranks! Our Court #996 meets once per month at St. Mary Ministry Center cafeteria to pray, share spirituality, plan charitable endeavors and enjoy fellowship. Visitors at our meetings are always welcome! We need women like you to continue serving in our community. Your time commitment can be as little or as much as your schedule allows (we are not an all or nothing group). Be assured, there’s a place for you!
