Hello everyone!

The Volusia County Autism Teen Group is for teens ages 14–18 who may have a hard time making friends. My goal is to organize fun meetups where teens can socialize, make connections, and build friendships in a welcoming environment.

I would like to set up our first meetup soon. If you have a teen who may be interested in participating, please send me a private message. I’d love to hear from you and get an idea of how many families might be interested.

“Parent Meet & Greet”

Before teens meet, I would like to invite parents or caregivers to an informational meeting (in person or virtual) to discuss:

* Group goals
* Safety expectations
* Teen interests
* Social anxiety concerns
* Emergency contacts

(DATE WILL BE AVAILABLE ONCE I GET AT LEAST 5 PARTICIPATING )

“Online Introductions”

For teens who are nervous, start with:

* A private moderated Facebook group
* Group chat (with parent permission)
* Virtual meet-and-greet on Zoom or Google Meet

Keep the first meeting simple:

* Favorite hobbies
* Pets
* Games
* Movies
* Music

“First In-Person Gathering”

Choose a low-pressure environment such as:

* Park picnic
* Ice cream social
* Board game café
* Library meeting room

Avoid loud or crowded places initially.

“Monthly Activities”

Rotate activities based on interests:

* Movie nights
* Bowling
* Mini golf
* Video game tournaments
* Restaurants
* Parks and nature walks
* Escape rooms
* Art classes

“Group Guidelines”

* Be kind and respectful.
* No bullying or teasing.
* Everyone participates at their comfort level.
* Parents are welcome to stay if needed.
* Respect sensory needs and personal space.

This group is designed for teens with high-functioning autism who would like to make friends in a supportive and understanding environment. We meet once or twice a month for activities such as parks, movies, gaming events, restaurants, bowling, and more. We understand that social situations can be challenging, so we offer opportunities for members to get to know one another before attending group outings. Parents and caregivers are welcome to connect and learn more about upcoming events.
