"DAYTON METRO LIBRARY EXHIBITION
My series “and I quote” will be on view in the 2nd floor gallery of the downtown Dayton Metro Library (215 E Third) from October 1 to October 31. There will be an Artist’s reception from 5:30 to 7:30 on Thursday, October 1.

This is the most personal art exhibition I’ve ever had. It’s about my own feelings and opinions about the current roundup of immigrants. I never really thought about immigration until it became an important topic in the last presidential campaign. Since then, I’ve read a lot and talked to many people who are directly or indirectly involved. The exhibition is structured around ten quotations, that were important to me as I developed my own opinions.

Ed Madden, Professor at the University of South Carolina wrote the poem that inspired this piece. It’s in a recent book of his poems about the treatment of immigrants.

I asked him what he needed
for the journey. He said,
Write down what you saw.
Maybe, someday, the world
will want to know.

The poem reminds me that my own thoughts on this issue have been shaped by those who have been directly affected. As I studied this issue, I paid less attention to what politicians said and more attention to those who spoke out or who wrote about what they themselves saw and experienced."

The Bulwark is holding a live event in Dayton Friday. Proceeds will benefit the Haitian Support Center in nearby Springfield.

We are glad Pastor Adrien is home; we mourn for the many who should be home but are not because of our government's ever escalating attack, including the jailing of so many who have done nothing wrong and have followed all the rules - but the government unjustifiably changed the rules.

ABLE celebrates the release and return of Pastor Joubert Adrien following weeks in ICE detention. Pastor Adrien was reunited with his wife and two children at their home in Springfield on September 16, 2026.

Pastor Adrien was taken into custody during a routine traffic stop on August 20, abruptly separating him from his family and congregation. ABLE legal counsel intervened on his behalf and filed a formal bond request with the Cleveland Immigration Court. On September 14, an Immigration Judge granted the request and ordered his release on bond.

A resident of the United States since 2021, Pastor Adrien has served as a respected spiritual and civic leader in the Springfield Haitian and broader faith communities. He serves as a Haitian Ministry Pastor in Springfield, where his ministry includes regular pastoral care, hospital visits for the sick, and organizing resource and food distribution events for local families in need.

Pastor Adrien’s presence is vital to his family and to the community he serves every day. His safe return home reinforces the importance of fair legal representation and preserving family unity, not only for immigrants but for everyone who calls this country home. Dozens of Haitians and other immigrants from the Miami Valley region remain separated from their families in immigration detention today.

ABLE will continue to fight for the release of our clients who remain detained. ABLE remains dedicated to protecting the rights and dignity of immigrant community members across Ohio through direct legal advocacy and community partnerships.
