Last week, we had the immense honour of screening , our latest film at the University of Dayton in Ohio, USA.
SIRA is focused on the issue of Female Ge***al Mutilation. Produced for UNFPA The Gambia, the film offers a new narrative on the work to , centering the power and agency of adolescent girls to build solidarity and influence abandonment.
We got rave reviews on the film and facilitated a discussion on the roles of families and communities in perpetuating the practice of FGM, and then the opportunities to contribute to efforts towards protecting girls who are at risk.
The screening was part of programming for the 2023 Joint Social Practice of Human Rights Conference and the 6th International Conference on the Right to Development. Convening under the theme of Decolonization and Development for Africa and People of African Descent, the conference was hosted by University of Dayton Human Rights, the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria and Centre for Human Rights at the University of the Free State.
