Did you know that just 5 drops of blood can save a baby's life?

September is Newborn Screening Awareness Month.
In Ohio, newborns are screened shortly after birth for serious medical conditions that aren't visible at first glance.
Early detection allows for prompt treatment, preventing developmental delays or severe complications.

OHSAI has sent a sign-on letter, https://loom.ly/01WKp14, to Ohio's full congressional delegation this week, outlining our concerns about the Department of Health and Human Services' proposed changes to the Head Start Program Performance Standards and what these changes could mean for children, families, and programs in all 88 Ohio counties.

Thank you to the following partner organizations across the state that are supporting our concerns and have signed on with us.

The public comment period on the proposed rule closes October 6.

In Wyandot County, just 17% of economically disadvantaged kindergartners show readiness.
That means too many children are starting behind—making it harder to catch up later.

🌱 Head Start programs help close this gap by giving children and families the tools to succeed. Ohio’s youngest children deserve a Head Start.

🌿 August is National Wellness Month 🌿
This month let's focus on an important part of our overall health: emotional wellness.

Life will always have its challenges, but building resilience can help us navigate difficult times with greater confidence and strength. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from setbacks, adapt to change, and keep moving forward.

Here are a few simple ways to build resilience:
✅ Develop healthy habits through nutrition, exercise, and quality sleep
✅ Take time for yourself every day
✅ View challenges as opportunities for growth
✅ Practice gratitude and focus on the positives
✅ Stay connected to your purpose and values
✅ Lean on friends, family, and your community for support

Small daily actions can make a big difference in your emotional well-being.
💚 What's one thing you do to support your emotional wellness?
