We are a university department run entirely by students, for students. SAFEβs resources and services are targeted towards students who identify as Southeast Asian (SEA) and Southeast Asian American (SEAA). Our programs center hxstories* and experiences tied to the Vietnam War, Khmer Rouge, Secret War, and Pathet Lao. We also address contemporary issues relevant to the SEAA community such as data d
isaggregation in higher education and limited knowledge of and access to resources in higher education. Even though our programs are specifically designed for the Southeast Asian community, we do not exclude anyone who would like to learn about SEA histories, identities, and cultures. Our meetings and events are open to the public (unless stated otherwise). We invite you all to come out with a positive attitude, open mind, and willingness to learn. SAFE focuses on recruitment, retention, and community empowerment. We also offer an opportunity to work with us! RECRUITMENT/OUTREACH
We visit middle and high schools in the Sacramento area to encourage students to pursue higher education through non-traditional approaches such as facilitating various workshops that deal with identity, history, culture, family dynamics, sex, race, health, etc. HOLISTIC RETENTION
Once students get into an institution of higher education, we want them to stay in college and successfully receive their degree. We offer various workshops and resources to help retain our students through various programs relating to the SEA identity. COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT
We want students to thrive. Community empowerment is about raising social and political consciousness, celebrating our existence, creating space to share and celebrate our narratives, and equipping students and our community with the tools necessary for growth. VOLUNTEERS & INTERNS PROGRAM
For students who would like to get involved and want to gain many leadership skills, we highly encourage them to join our Volunteers and Internship Program (VIP) so that they may continue to stay engaged and challenged throughout their time in college. We are always looking for volunteers and interns to help carry out our purpose. If you are interested or have any questions, feel free to contact us!
