**LWVYC Seeks Democracy Works Nominees**

Since 2006, the League of Women Voters of Woodland has presented the annual Democracy Works award to an individual and/or organization working to empower voters and defend democracy. The League seeks nominees from throughout Yolo County whose actions support our citizens and our democratic processes.

These actions may include encouraging equal representation, promoting free and fair elections, expanding voter education and rights, advocating legislation that promotes democracy and our communities, or taking grassroots political action.

The deadline for submittals is September 1, 2025. The Awards Ceremony will be sometime in October.

🚨 Stand Against AB 25: Protect Voter Access! 🚨

The League of Women Voters of California (LWVC) is urging Californians to oppose AB 25, a bill that would impose unnecessary and restrictive voter identification requirements, potentially disenfranchising thousands of voters across the state. Click below to read the letter submitted to Assembly Committees on Elections and Judiciary and Representative Carl DeMaio.

California already has a proven, robust system in place to ensure the integrity of our elections, including voter registration verification, signature matching, and identity checks. AB 25 threatens to undermine this system by imposing strict voter ID requirements that would disproportionately impact vulnerable communities — especially people of color, the elderly, and those with disabilities. 🚫

Let's stand together to protect voter access and safeguard fair elections for all Californians.

The 31st Annual State of the Community was a successful beginning for LWV Yolo County with keys insights on Yolo County from Supervisor Frerichs.

What an incredible event! Guest Speaker County Supervisor Lucas Frerichs provided a comprehensive overview on challenges Yolo is facing, including Federal uncertainty and budget challenges. He shared news of Yolo’s new Chief Administrative Officer (we warmly welcome Mike Webb), spoke on upcoming initiatives around climate resilience and reinforced the county’s commitment to keeping Yolo County a safe and welcoming space during these uncertain times. To learn more, the presentation slides have been posted on our website lwvyolo.org.

The energy in the room was undeniable—the presence of elected officials and engaged community members and partners highlighted the trust and influence that the League has built in this community and a testament to the support Yolo has for it’s own. We love the "Yolo way!"

A huge thank you to everyone who made this event possible! Your dedication and hard work were evident in every detail, and it was inspiring to see such enthusiasm for our mission of empowering voters and strengthening democracy.

A special note of appreciation to our friends at Fourth & Hope for serving the delicious food catered from Treasure Dragon.

Update: The The Woodland Daily Democrat informs on the insights by Supervisor Frerichs very well - https://www.dailydemocrat.com/2025/02/28/yolo-county-faces-local-and-federal-challenges/
