He gave q***r people a character we didn’t have to explain ourselves to.

As Dr. Frank-N-Furter, Tim Curry was outrageous, seductive, theatrical, and entirely unapologetic. At a time when q***r visibility was often defined by shame, silence, or stereotypes, he gave audiences something radically different: a character who took up space, demanded attention, and found freedom in being exactly who he was.

For countless LGBTQ+ people, Frank-N-Furter became more than a role. He became a fantasy of liberation, a celebration of excess, and a reminder that there was nothing wrong with being too much.

That is part of what makes Tim Curry’s legacy so enduring. He didn’t simply give us a character to remember. He gave generations of q***r people someone to see themselves in.

Transgender History Month:
Lives That Changed the World

As we celebrate Transgender History Month, we honor Sylvia Rivera.

Sylvia Rivera spent decades fighting for transgender people long before the world was ready to listen.

A Latina activist, she believed that no one should be left behind—not because of their gender identity, race, income, or housing status. She challenged the LGBTQ+ movement itself to make sure transgender people were included in the fight for equality.

Her message was simple but powerful: freedom isn’t real until it belongs to everyone.

Today, countless transgender people enjoy greater visibility and support because Sylvia refused to let their voices be forgotten.

We honor the rich histories, cultures, languages, and enduring contributions of Indigenous Peoples around the world.

Observed annually on August 9, this United Nations observance commemorates the first meeting of the U.N. Working Group on Indigenous Populations in 1982. It serves as a reminder to celebrate Indigenous communities while recognizing the importance of protecting their rights, preserving their cultural heritage, and amplifying their voices.

Dr. Maya Angelou believed that our differences should inspire understanding rather than division. Her words continue to remind us of our shared humanity: "We are more alike, my friends, than we are unalike." — Dr. Maya Angelou

As we reflect today, may we honor Indigenous traditions, listen with openness, and continue building a world rooted in dignity, respect, and mutual understanding.

Gay Uncles Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in August. It was first celebrated in the US on a wide scale in 2016. 💚🩵
