•Meet Our Executive Board•

This week we are spotlighting Local 4 Trustee, Jeff Holtz.

* Years in the Union: 12 years
* Specialty: Framing to Finish Work
* Proudest Project: Either working on the new I-74 Bridge or all of the Nichiha siding I helped put on the YWCA in Rock Island

What the Union Means:
“Being a part of the next generation of leaders and some of the most skilled workers in the world.”

Advice for Apprentices:
“Never stop learning and also take pride in your work, that usually makes for a better finished product.”

This week we are spotlighting Business Representative/Organizer, Steve Nienhaus.

* Years in the Union: 27 years
* Specialty: Concrete Form Carpenter & Scaffold Builder
* Proudest Project: Building a $4.7 billion fertilizer plant in Southeast Iowa that peaked at nearly 900 union carpenters over 5 years

What the Union Means:
“Solidarity, brotherhood, job security, pathway to the middle class.”

Advice for Apprentices:
“90% of being an apprentice is showing up EVERYDAY, being 15 minutes early with a good learning attitude, and staying off your PHONE! You aren’t expected to be the best carpenter, but superintendents love guys they can count on to be there on time each day with a good attitude.”
