Last week, several green-thumbed members of the Gabriella Garden Club rolled up their sleeves for a fall spruce-up of the Community Pollinator Garden at HOME Sign Park!

Joining our volunteers were City Horticulturist Jessica Smith and members of the City of Danville Public Works team, who shared their expertise on preparing pollinator beds for winter dormancy while helping preserve this important habitat for the seasons ahead.

A little autumn tending goes a long way toward ensuring a beautiful, thriving garden come spring!

Many thanks to our dedicated Gabriella volunteers, Jessica Smith, and Public Works staff for their time, guidance, and continued commitment to keeping Danville blooming!

For six decades, Betty Wilson has devoted her time, talents, and heart to the Gabriella Garden Club, leaving an extraordinary legacy of service, friendship, and a shared love of horticulture.

In celebration of Betty’s remarkable 60 years of active membership, the Gabriella Garden Club proudly dedicated a native Buckeye tree (Aesculus) in her honor at Ballou Park as part of the Ballou Park Reforestation Project.

Since joining Gabriella in 1966, Betty has served in numerous leadership roles, including club president, graciously opened her home three times for Historic Garden Week in Virginia, and shared her exceptional talents in floral design. Most recently, she helped lead the design and revitalization of the HOME sign park on Main Street. Her contributions have earned her all three of Gabriella’s annual awards—a testament to her unwavering commitment to our club and community.

But perhaps Betty’s greatest legacy is found not only in her many accomplishments, but in the friendships she has cultivated, the beauty she has created, and the generations of Gabriellas she has inspired.

How fitting that we honor someone who has spent a lifetime helping beautiful things grow by planting a tree that will do the same.

With deep appreciation and admiration, we celebrate you, Betty. Thank you for 60 extraordinary years of dedication, friendship, and service. Your legacy will continue to bloom for generations to come. 🌳

The Gabriella Garden Club extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Garden Club of Virginia (GCV) for the generous donation of three native trees to the Ballou Park Reforestation Project!

Planted and dedicated yesterday, October 9, these trees are part of the GCV250 Tree Project, a statewide initiative celebrating America’s 250th anniversary by planting native trees to strengthen and preserve local tree canopies.

The three beautiful additions to Ballou Park include:

🌳 Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida)

🌳 Black Gum (Nyssa sylvatica)

🌳 Swamp White Oak (Quercus bicolor)

We also learned that the Ballou Park Reforestation Project has an ambitious goal of planting 100 trees over 10 years, replacing trees lost to age, weather, and disease. Over the past few years, 38 trees have already been planted!

We are deeply grateful to the Garden Club of Virginia and everyone involved in this important conservation effort. Together, we are helping ensure that Ballou Park remains a beautiful, thriving green space for generations to come!

Today's the day! Join us at Ballou Park from 4:00–7:00 p.m. as we continue restoring and expanding Danville's urban forest through the Ballou Park Reforestation Project.

With the help of volunteers and community partners, we'll be planting trees that will provide lasting benefits to our community for decades to come.

A special thank you to the Gabriella Garden Club for donating three trees through the Garden Club of Virginia's GCV250 Tree Project, and to all of our partners helping make today's planting possible.

The Gabriella Garden Club is incredibly proud to celebrate our very own Brannon Blount, whose breathtaking floral arrangement is featured in Fine Arts & Flowers 2026 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond!

Inspired by Jan van Os’ painting, “Still Life with Carnations and Exotic Fruit”, Brannon’s extraordinary arrangement brings the artwork to life through a magnificent display of color, texture, movement, and artistry.

Fine Arts & Flowers is a spectacular museum-wide exhibition featuring stunning floral designs inspired by works of art in VMFA’s permanent collection. These creations are the work of talented designers from the Garden Club of Virginia, the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs, and Ikebana of Richmond.

What an incredible honor to have one of our own represented among these talented floral artists!
