Medicaid accepted. Nonprofit support available for those without coverage. Healing starts here. Focus Point Mental Health is a Virginia-based, Black woman-owned mental health agency committed to empowering individuals and families to lead self-directed, stable, and fulfilling lives. Founded in 2017 by Angela Williams, a licensed mental health provider with over 20 years of experience, the business
was born from a deep understanding of systemic gaps in access to care—and a fierce desire to be part of the solution. Our agency provides community-based behavioral health services that are Medicaid-billable and person-centered, including Mental Health Skill-Building, Intensive In-Home Services, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Outpatient Therapy, and our Sponsored Residential Program. We support both children and adults across Richmond, Danville/Martinsville, and Lynchburg. But we don’t stop at billing Medicaid—we go further. After witnessing countless individuals being denied care because they made “too much” to qualify for Medicaid or too little to afford private insurance, Angela founded a nonprofit arm of the business to ensure no one falls through the cracks. Our nonprofit helps fund therapy and support services for clients who don’t meet the criteria for insurance coverage, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to care. What makes us different is our heart. We don’t just provide mental health services—we build relationships. Our staff is deeply connected to the communities we serve. Many of us have lived experiences that mirror those of our clients. This shared understanding fosters trust, which is often the first step toward healing. We’ve hosted mental health awareness events, including our annual Mental Health Fashion Show, designed to break stigma, spark conversation, and celebrate the resilience of those living with mental health conditions. We are rooted in the belief that healing isn’t only clinical—it’s cultural, communal, and personal. Despite the challenges of recruiting and retaining qualified mental health professionals—a common issue in our field—we remain committed to growing a passionate team. We’re working to offer ongoing training, mentorship, and leadership pathways for staff to grow within the organization. By pouring into our people, we strengthen the very foundation of our care. Our vision is bold: to become a statewide leader in accessible, equity-driven mental health care. We aim to open new locations, deepen partnerships with schools and hospitals, and expand our nonprofit capacity so more individuals can receive therapy, regardless of their financial or insurance status. At Focus Point, our motto is simple: If you’re not a part of the solution, you may be a part of the problem. We’ve chosen to be the solution—one life, one breakthrough, one healing moment at a time.
