In the past week, Brice Gibson with The Bridge Recovery Community Center and Sgt. Aaron Rainwater with the Danville Police Department have been able to place two families in housing. That’s 4 of our community members that are no longer unhoused!

Overall there have been approximately 20 families that the Boyle County Homeless Coalition and our community partners have been able to successfully find housing for and helped to move into their new homes.

None of this would have been possible if it was not for the amazing and tireless work of volunteers who have worked to help these families obtain IDs, stable and reliable income, and furnishings for their homes. None of this would have been possible without donations and the support of this community.

Thanks to all of your support, especially Brice, Sgt. Rainwater, The Bridge, and Danville Police Department!

Great things are happening with our neighbors in Garrard County!

From Homeless Shelter to Eastern Kentucky University

Zachary Doty came to the Garrard County Homeless Shelter in March, carrying little more than hope and a determination to change the course of his life.

Like many people facing homelessness, he was navigating uncertainty while searching for an opportunity to build a better future.

In April, Zachary passed his GED and graduated high school.

A few weeks later he put in his application to attend Eastern Kentucky University's Summer Program. He received his Letter of Acceptance. His goal is to one day be a Marine Biologist which was a childhood dream.

Zachary has deepened his belief in God while at the Homeless Shelter, giving testimony and joining in daily devotions and praying for his friends, family and the shelter.

Zachary officially began his college career at Eastern Kentucky University on June 30th. We are excited to follow his journey and celebrate each milestone as he continues working toward his dream of becoming a Marine Biologist.

Zachary's story is a reminder that hope, faith, perseverance, and the support of a caring community can help transform lives. We are proud of all he has accomplished and look forward to seeing what the future holds for him.

What to support the mission?

Congratulations to our very own Brice Gibson. He works so hard to help as many people as possible and we are proud of the hard work that he does!

The community builder award this year has been renamed to the Funkhouser Community Builder Award in honor of and to recognize John Funkhouser for all of his energy, time, effort, sponsorship, and dedication he has given to our communities.

This award is presented to an individual who works tirelessly to improve not just their own community, but all of our communities. They excel at making connections, inspiring others, and uniting people for the common good.
This person gives freely of their time and talent, serving as a passionate liaison who constantly seeks ways to involve groups and individuals in meaningful work. They are always among the first to lend a hand, organize volunteers, and step up to serve our communities.
Just like John, this individual goes above and beyond to make a lasting difference in the lives of those around them.
And this year, the recipient of the Funkhouser Community Builder Award is Brice Gibson.

Brice is the Boyle County Health Department Harm Reduction and Homeless Coordinator. (The Bridge Recovery Community Center). He is boots on the ground and is out amongst those living without shelter. Brice coordinates supplies and food, and brings together organizations to help solve this ongoing crisis. He serves as the central hub for all those who are homeless and in need.
