Did you know 85% of textiles end up in a landfill?! 🤯

Arkansas EHC is on a mission to change that. Their new statewide service project is all about reducing fabric waste by teaching people to recycle, repurpose, and repair clothing. 🧵♻️

It is garlic scapes season! These are hyper-seasonal: the garlic flowers once, we harvest those buds so that it will redirect energy into a bulb, and then it’s w**d, water, and wait for the garlic bulb harvest. We dropped off 10 bags of scapes at The Knoll—fabulous sautéed into scrambled eggs, minced into spaghetti, added to stir fry, sautéed and smushed onto toast with olive oil…we also chop and purée them with olive oil in a food processor and freeze that into cubes to use in soups and stir fry during the winter. Enjoy!

It’s National Garlic Day! The Chesnok Red garlic is looking great. In a few months we’ll harvest scapes and then a little after that, delicious bulbs!

Do you have any early squash planted? 🦋

Our IPM team has been tracking Growing Degree Day (GDD) accumulation and warmer parts of the state (i.e. Alma, Little Rock, Hope) have officially reached the minimum 750 GDDs where we could see Squash Vine Borer emerge. We are about 3 weeks ahead of last year, so if you have early squash planted, now is the time to start scouting!

Bookmark the IPM webpage for pest updates and check out their Growing Degree Day Model section to compare your location in the state: www.uaex.uada.edu/hort-ipm

What are you having for breakfast? Our chicken eggs and pastured pork sausage are restocked at the Knoll. We dropped off a bunch of dryer ball sets too, made with alpaca fiber from our rescue herd.

Blurry photo: Dory the sheep has let me pet him! Sloop quickly wanted scritches on his head, but Dory and Tug have been much more skittish. Dory has come up and sniffed my hand for a few days and then, tada! He let me scritch behind his ears. A few more weeks, and then hopefully they’ll be tame enough to let out with our dairy goats.

These are Gulf Coast Native sheep wethers (neutered). They’re going to live here as part of our fiber herd.

Caramel giving new meaning to “bed and breakfast”, taking a nap on top of the goat’s hay bale. Cocoapuff hanging out near her but most of the adult goats just eat from the sides.
