In 1917, Melvin Jones, a 38-year-old Chicago business leader, told members of his local business club they should reach beyond business issues and address the betterment of their communities and the world. Jones' group, the Business Circle of Chicago, agreed. After contacting similar groups around the United States, an organizational meeting was held on June 7, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The new group took the name of one of the invited groups, the "Association of Lions Clubs," and a national convention was held in Dallas, Texas, USA in October of that year. A constitution, by-laws, objects and a code of ethics were approved. Within three years, Lions became an international organization. Since then, we've earned high marks for both integrity and transparency. We're a well-run organization with a steady vision, a clear mission, and a long – and proud – history.

Event to Honor the Memory of Lion Pamela Baker

Sachse Lions Club Members, Wylie Lions Club Members past and present, other District 2-X1 Lions, Lion Pamela's husband Ray Baker, her Nephew Jerimiah, and other non-Lion Members attend to honor Lion Pamela.

Lion Pamela would have been the District 2-X1 Governor in 2025 - 2026. Her Council honored her at the MD-2 Convention in Odessa, Texas as the 17th Member of their Council.

Sachse Lions Club Members - Sachse Lions Club Garden Chair Lion Beckie Forsyth, Sachse Lions Club Gardener Henrietta Ugokwe, and worker PDG Billy Ketner harvested and prepared some 25 pounds of produce. Tomatoes, Peppers, Cucumbers, and Berries. Please see the picture. The Onions do not show as they are on drying prep racks elsewhere in the Garden to be prepared and distributed later. The Harvest today was distributed to the 5 Loaves Ministries clients in line for today's distribution from their Pantry.

The Garden is Flourishing
The garden has been blessed with just the right amount of rain lately, taking the pressure off and eliminating the need for hand watering. Even so, it’s wise to keep a moisture meter handy to spot-check soil moisture levels—consistent moisture is great, but it’s just as important not to overwater. With a quick check before you add any extra water, you can support steady growth without stressing roots.

Come out Saturday June 13, 7:30am for our work/play day.
There’s work for every physical level from easy to not as easy.
Bring your gloves, hats and water and if you have a wheel barrow, bring it, too. We’ll be weeding, moving mulch and visiting with garden friends.

Update on the 5 Loaves Ministries Garden
Supported by the Sachse Lions Club.

In late March we planted 11 rows in a variety of tomatoes and peppers along with
basil, okra, pole beans, squash, onions, blackberries, and strawberries. We also
have some volunteer basil, cilantro and squash from the last crop. Within a couple of
months we hope to begin providing fresh produce to the 5 Loaves Pantry clients.
Come get your hands dirty. It’s good for the spirit!
We’ve already had some visits from the local bunnies that have nibbled on the bean
plants so we know they must be tasty.
