Being part of the foster care system is a fraction of someone's life. Not the whole story.

Our students have faced challenges most people will never fully understand — and in the face of that, they built resilience, adaptability, and strength.

What they went through is not who they are. But what they did in the face of it? That is.

This Foster Care Awareness Month, we acknowledge the reality. We honor the journey. And we recognize something deeper — this is a group of individuals reshaping what foster care looks like.

Not a statistic. Not a sob story. People whose strength runs deeper than anything they've faced, who are actively building lives defined by who they're becoming.

If that’s been you, you’ve probably gotten used to figuring things out on your own — making decisions, handling situations, and pushing forward because you have to.

And that takes a kind of strength not everyone understands.

But you’re not meant to carry everything by yourself forever. There are spaces, people, and opportunities that are here to support you too.

People love to say “you’re so strong.”

But most of the time, that just means you didn’t really have another option. You had to adjust, figure things out, and keep going even when it wasn’t easy.

That kind of resilience doesn’t always feel like something to celebrate, but it is.

Even on the days where it feels like you’re just getting through it.

And the truth is, strength doesn’t have to mean doing everything alone.

Having people around you, even just a few who get it, who show up, who make things feel a little lighter… that matters more than people talk about.

Her courage carried her forward.

This is part 1 to Tablets story. She chose hope long before she ever had support. At just 11 years old, she made the brave decision to leave everything she knew in search of a safer future, carrying her past with her while stepping into the unknown. Her journey across borders, through uncertainty, and into a new country is a testament to resilience that was already alive inside her.

Arriving in Texas alone and entering foster care meant learning a new language, a new culture, and how to navigate college without family by her side. ISF had the privilege of walking alongside Tablets by providing tutoring, mentorship, and financial support — not to give her strength, but to help remove barriers so the strength she already had could thrive.

Stories like Tiblets’ move forward when people choose to show up — as mentors, investors, and advocates for students who already carry so much potential.

This is Part 1 to Jesus' story.

Jesus chose to pursue a better future, even while carrying the weight of his past. Like many former foster youth, he’s had to navigate emotional challenges, pressure to become independent early, and the financial realities of college — all while trying to stay motivated and hopeful. That choice to keep moving forward is his strength.

ISF has the privilege of walking alongside Jesus by helping remove financial barriers and connecting him with a mentor who believes in him. The support doesn’t create his drive, it protects the space for it to grow. His progress is the result of his determination, and we’re proud to stand with him as he builds the life he’s working toward.
