What if the “best” baseball team isn’t actually the best team for your son?

That’s not a criticism of any other program.

There are some outstanding homeschool baseball organizations, and many players are exactly where they need to be.

But after coaching homeschool baseball for the past several years, we’ve become convinced that parents should ask a different question before choosing a team.

Instead of asking…

“How many games did they win?”

or

“How many practices do they have?”

I’d ask…

“Who will my son become because of the coaches and teammates he’s surrounded by?”

That question matters because one day baseball ends.

The lessons, character, friendships, and confidence your son develops will stay with him long after the final game.

One of our players sent us a text after this past season that we’ll never forget.

“It's been a pleasure to play for you guys this spring. I really haven’t had that much fun playing baseball in a very long time. I'm super grateful for you guys!!”

That’s one of the greatest compliments we could receive.

At Dallas Lions, we absolutely want to compete.

We want to develop skilled baseball players.

But we’re building something that’s becoming harder to find.

Congratulations to Ben Bergeron, who was recognized at our Dallas Lions Baseball Banquet and Awards Ceremony as both Offensive Player of the Year and the recipient of The Lions Award.

As a varsity player, Ben had an incredible offensive season, finishing with 40 hits, 9 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, including a grand slam, a .402 batting average, and 26 stolen bases. He was also ranked No. 19 in the state of Texas among all freshmen for batting average on MaxPreps.

The Lions Award does not simply represent talent or statistics. It represents the heart of what we want Dallas Lions Baseball to be built on: culture, integrity, leadership, toughness, attitude, and consistency.

Ben consistently responded positively when challenged, stayed ready to compete, embraced difficult situations, encouraged his teammates, and refused to be limited by what others thought he could or could not do.

Congratulations, Ben. Well deserved.
